Hi,
I have a version 7 PS2 with a magic 3.1 (red) modchip installed into my PS2. I haven't played it in 2 years. Now when I turn it on, original discs work fine. My backups aren't recognized by the PS2. When I put in my dics, i don't get a disc read error - it just goes straight to the diagnosis screen. When I browse for a CD, I get the memory directory and my PS2 is continually running and reading the disc. I know the modchip is still working (somewhat) in that when I put in the setup disc for the PS2 Hardrive, I get the DNAS failure (i think 402 or 403... it's the error that the PS2 server has detected a modchip). I have already cracked open the PS2 to see if wires were crossed or anything but everything... seems fine. I can upload pictures if anyone needs to see it. I lost the light toolkit a long time ago to diagnose if the modchip is working. My questions are:

1) can i make a "makeshift" diagnosis light to check if my wires are connected and
2) can someone help me with a solution to this ?

Thanks in advance

i had a v7 magic 3.1 which has the same problme as you do. If it is a DVDR backup it will most likely not work. Only those factory pressed backups do. Let me know otherwise, so at least i know im wrong.

Edit: you can also try running original games of different region from ur set. Its the easiest way to tell if the chip is working.

Tried burning a game at 4X and it still doesn't work! I have no idea what is going on! Might have to resodder and check everything. I don't have any games that are "outside my region." Any other ideas?

2. what program to burn them and at what speed?
3. What games are you doing?
4. have you read the many many post on how to copy PS2 games so you know you have taken steps to solve problmes others have had?
