hey guys, I've been meaning to mod my ps2 for a long time but the damn chips are still pretty expensive and kinduva hassle. So I dunno if I should get the EZI chip and try it or should I get one of those cold heat solder and a different mod chip and try to solder it? Only problem I have deciding to go with EZI is that it's pretty expense and a lil doubtful it it'll last. But with the soldering idea, I have never messed with the whole soldering thing so I not sure if it'll be more of a hassle..

hi i have no experience with EZI chip & how reliable it is.
but wanted to say - if you have never soldered then do not attempt it, it is not the easiest thing to do but it is the easiest way to screw up your ps2. personally i would pay the extra & have an experienced installer put one in or get the solderless EZI like you were thinking.
this is just my advice as i wouldnt want you to mess up your ps2
:-)

I hear about a lot of people having problems with the EZI.....soldering is the way to go, for sure. But like gjl2002 said, if you don't have much soldering experience, you may want to have somebody who knows what they're doing do it for you. If you do decide to solder it yourself, make sure you practice first. And don't use the cold heat soldering iron! Here's what the company that makes it says....

"We do not recommend it for soldering of large metallic components that require a lot of heat transfer or for soldering sensitive electronic components that may be damaged by fast-rising temperatures or high electrical current. (Momentary high-amperage current will be created during active soldering.)"

I would consider the PS2 to fall into the category of "sensitive electronic components" personally.

I had the DMS4 EZI Lite, trust me, stay away from them. I got it to work for about a week then the chip just died. This has happened to a lot of people out there.

If you can, get the SE and pay someone $30 to mod it for you (and the price will be just about the same without the headaches).

Teammodders.com
you can buy the chip and send the PS2 and chip to them.
They will install it and send it back.
You can look in the forum section under PS2 installs and see many pictures of how good their work is, and read the site feedback section to see all the rave reviews that the installer gets (Davbere)

I am a moderator on those sites so i know those guys and they are top notch. I think they charge like $35 for an install, plus you have to pay shipping costs. They may even have an extra chip around since they sell premodded systems so you may only have to sent the PS2
