Hello,
Somebody brought me a bulky black PS-2 Model 50004 V10 GH-026.
It was not working as he said.

I opened up the console and found a Mars clone chip inside (TM Semi, FAB-2004).
At least 8 out of the 26 wires had been disconnected and more than likely had short-circuited some other electronic components whilst powered on.

I carefully removed the chip and cleaned the contacts from solder where the wires were originally connected. I examined the PCB, but did not find any cut traces or burned fuses on the PCB.

I then put the console back together, but even though the console turns on (Reset and Power button work) and the DVD door opens fine, there is no display on the TV.
It seems that it sends signal to the TV, as the (RGB-Scart & Composite-RCA) AV video channel comes up, but it?s just a black screen.

I inserted a CD & DVD PS-2 game, but the DVD-ROM does not try to load them.

I checked the PCB again but I didn?t see anything physical wrong or burned on it.

Any ideas what could be the problem?

Can this be fixed, or should I consider that some crucial component was short-circuited with the disconnected mod-chip wires and burned?

Thanks in advance.
