I've been using the WiFi Max for a few months now, and I'm really happy with it as a wireless access point for PSP and my laptop.

I just picked up OutRun 2006, and like so many games where you can host a match, it appears to require a UDP port # to be forwarded to the game console (in this case the PSP) to host the room and have it show up on other users consoles.

Since the WiFi Max isn't technically a router (and my wired router doesn't interact with it at all) I'm really not sure how to forward the UDP port to the PSP.

There's nothing in the WiFi Max's signal management software that allows port ranges to be entered or forwarded.

Does anybody have any clue how to get a port forwarded out of a device like a WiFi Max to a device like a PSP? I'm not even sure how to detect what IP address the PSP is assigned on my network....if it's even assigned one.

Help please! I'd really like to be able to host matches in OutRun, or other games that allow for it!

Thanks!

-Lupy

Try use the windows firewall. If you have XP, just go to Control Panel. Make sure it is in Classic View. Then double click on Windows firewall. Click on the "Exceptions" tab and click on add port. Specify the name and the port number, and click on the UDP radio button and press OK. Then press OK again, thats it!

You may be required to restart your computer for the settings to take effect.

You are able to specify the IP Address that you want the PSP to be given, by using the custom setting when setting up your internet connection (on your PSP).

Okay, I gave that a try.

Unfortunately the online action on that game has been a bit sparse today...(though I'm pretty impressed with how many people have been online with it in the past week!)

So, last question - when I add that UDP port to my firewall exceptions, it goes out to everything on my network when it's checked off? Like, all the active addresses on my network will have that port forwarded to it (so I don't even really need to specify an address for my PSP).

Thanks for the response.

No you don't have to specify the IP address of the PSP,the port forwading applies for all of the computers in your network.

Well, I tried it, and there are a lot of users online....but even when I try to set up a lobby and send join game invites, none of them show up in my lobby.

I suppose it could be just a matter of them not wanting to join...

...and the damned game doesn't have any type of chat features, so I can't figure out if they don't see the room or it won't let them enter.

I noticed another feature on the exception settings...under CHANGE SCOPE....perhaps I need to input the IP address that the PSP is operating on in that section?

the only thing is, that I don't know where I would be able to find what address the PSP is on....as the WiFiMax software doesn't display that info.

I hate it when I can't fix these types of things.

Any more advice/thoughts? Thanks.

Oops, I just realised that using Wifi max doesn't involve setting up an infrastructure connection on your PSP. So therefore the PSP has no IP Address, but the router thinks the PSP is your computer, so the IP Address of the PSP is that of your computer. So that means you can go to your router config, and open up the right ports, using the IP Address of the PC you're using with Wifimax.

Okay...that makes enough sense. I'll give it a try and report back in a bit.

Thanks again for continuing to help out here.

Sorry for the double post, just reporting back on that.

Yes, it worked. When I forwarded the UDP port through my router and computer, people began to join my online matches.

But then my battery died in the middle of a race!!!

LOL.

THANK YOU FOR THE HELP. I'm always thankful for sites like AfterDawn.

I just realised how wrong I was. Actually Wifi max does involve the set up of an infrastructure connection on your PSP (I was getting it confused with Xlink Kai), but I was still right about how the router thought the PSP was your computer though :)

Yeah, the WiFi does use the infastructure mode...and you were right that it shares the SAME IP with the computer as far as port forwarding.

Since the device needed to "share" the internet connection with the network in network settings on initial setup.

It's amazing how much sense things are when people point out the correct way....but I could have messed with stuff for DAYS and not thought that they were sharing an IP.
