I'm very new to the PS2 mod world, I bought a Slim PS2 premodded, When some of my backups weren't working I came here and found out about all of the terrible things that can happen. I'm using only verbatim dvd's now but 2 things still bother me. I want to know what chip I have, It says infinity 1.38 or something like that when it boots. Also I held triangle and circle I think it was and a menu with Matrix came up, Does that mean that thatit is a Matrix Infinity for sure? Also is there any way to find out if it has the laser fix?

Sorry to ask so much but I'm really worried now.

Where did you buy the PS2? The store you bought it off should tell you what they have installed, otherwise you can always open up the PS2 to look...

yes, i agree with the above. Get them to tell you.
Although that may also be false information. A lot of people end up getting clone chips.
But it could be a Matrix Infinity, the 1.38 is the BIOS version for the chip that it is running right now.
If it is a V12 it is a very good idea to get a laser fix installed or risk having the laser burn out.
But if you do get one installed have it installed by someone who knows what they are doing and knows a lot about modchips and is trustworthy. That way when they open it up to install the laser fix they can tell you what chip it is.
That is very important to know because a true Matrix Infinity chip has BIOS upgrades you can download. But from what i have heard if you try that and it is a clone chip it will really screw things up.
