I would like to be able to backup my dvd's to my computer and edit out the cussing and inappropriate scenes in order for my young children to be able to watch some of the movies that they are not allowed to watch currently.

I know how to backup my dvd's to .vob files and have not ever backed any up to .avi or other formats but will be willing to learn if I have to.

Please let me how to do it or guide me in the right direction.

Thanks alot

You can use TMPGEnc DVD Author to cut scenes without having to convert to AVI or MPG2. This could work for both the cussing and inappropriate scenes.

If you need more help let me know.

Is there a guide somewhere that tells you how to do that?

Thanks

Here's a few guides for removing commercials.

http://www.web-templates.us/edit/edit.htm

Here's a rough guide for TMPGEnc DVD Author

Start TMPGEnc DVD Author.
Click the Source setup button.
Click the Add DVD Video button.
Browse for your Video_TS folder.
Select title (usually Title 1).
Next on option settings if your DVD is ripped to the Hard Drive then select (Reading chapter information).
Next select Chapter cut edit.
Here you play the movie.
Press pause at the beginning of the inappropriate scenes. You can use the >> and << button to find a good spot. Then you press the Set as start frame button. Now you can press play or use the >> button to find the end of the scene. Then press the Set as end frame button and press the cut button. Do this for all of the scenes you want cut. Then press OK.

Now you can create menu or just select the output button and create your new DVD files.

Does anyone else have any suggestions on how to do this.

What about VideoReDo?

Thanks

VideoReDo can do it a little more precise than TMPGEnc DVD Author.

Would there be a way to simply cut the audio at the correct time, without making the video skip a couple frames?

I would like to know that answer too. Is there a way to bleap out the audio sound and leave the video in tack.

Thanks

If you want to do it more GUI and not as much technical. You could try pinnacle studio, Sony Vegas, Ulead DVD Studio, Nero ReCode.etc. There are lots of different options, it's a preference you might have which will be your final answer. All of which cost a good bit o cash.

Who is that shadowy figure?

Or on the cheaper end, you could go with DVD ReMake or VideoReDo.

Reguardless of which app you use, you'll have to either insert a blank audio part or cut the video as well.
