I read a while back that Blue Ray discs can hold up to 15gb+ max of data while the DVD's only hold up to 4.76gb and some games are between 2gb - 3gb, do you think that we will see games that have big level's, Bigger Islands(GTA).

I would assume yes that we will see bigger maps but also think of big in a different perspective, such as filled with more content. Picture a map the same size but with alot more interaction,(ie) can go into many builds. That and prob expect developers to add more video content, like added stuff you get on dvds. Maybe a movie of and interview with developers or such.

Well atleast thats what i think. But i wouldnt expect to see blu ray right off the bat just from a cost perspective, but im sure it will be used in the near future.

well some games are 3 gigs but xbox 360 games are usually about 6 to whole dvd 9's so i think the space is a requirement

also blurays are
standard 25gb
dlayer 50gb

and possibly
triple layer 100 gigabtytes(TESTing)
tdk has a 100gb bluray cd but its still in testing

currently have these consoles

Gamecube
Xbox
Ps2
Dreamcast
Phantom
Gba
psp

it doesnt seem like the space ps3 will get from the Blu-ray format is neccessary at this point in time. Oblivion is quite the big game and it only uses about half the dvd or 4.5gb's. Im sure i will hear something about loading times or something..but just pointing it out that the only people who believe the extra space is needed at the time is Sony.

The biggest improvement of Bluray for games over DVD is that compression won't be an issue. The 360 uses innovative compression techniques, while the PS3 won't have to, because it has more than enough space. This could lead to faster loading times and more efficient use of the Cell processor, since it wont be busy compressing and decompressing data. Of course, this could also lead to sloppy game deveopment and performance issues, so we'll have to wait and see.

@razegan

great point, its a big risk in trying the new format but if it works well it could seal the deal on the console war...
