Basically I have been ripping and encoding my backups with shrink, and nero. I use the deep analysis mode with more compression so it doubles my time. Then I burn it with nero. So far the quality of my backups has been good. I just recently gave "dvdfab decrypter" a shot with one of my movies, and it ripped the files in 1/4 of the time. It then said "I was ready to burn"...Now do I lose quality with this backup? Can this program really do it all in that short amount of time? The movie I am backing up is Kill Bill.
What is the best way to backup a movie with the best quality?? What is the best way for time?? I hear people saying they use dvd shrink with other decrypting programs! What is the most time efficient way? I am so confused with what all the benefits or these other programs are. Shrink with the deep analysis takes ahwhile, so is there any other way to backup my dvd's with faster results but maintain or closely maintain the same quality?? Thanks for the help! (I also understand that dvdfab, and dvd decrypter rip copyright protection that shrink can't) but what is the reason for using both on the same backup/burn? Any comments would be appreciated!

DVDFab Decrypter only ripped your disk to your HDD. The files are the same size as on the disk. If you ripped a commercial disk then it was likely a double layered disk and the files won't fit on a single layered DVD. Enter DVD Shrink which is used to omit things you don't want and to transcode the ripped video files with additional compression as need. Previously you were using DVD Shrink as a ripper as well as a reauthoring program. DVD Shrink processing directly from the disk is slower than processing ripped files on the HDD. The ripped files from DVDFab Decrypter still have to be processed by DVD Shrink.

Here's a helpful guide:

Decrypt with dvdfab it will create a file in c:drive (takes approx 25mins). Open the created file with DVD Shrink and and backup and burn (takes about another 25-30 mins). Done!

I think it's hard to tell the difference between regular analysis and deep analysis in DVD Shrink when the compression is above 80%. Differences tend to become noticeable at 80% or so and less. Deep Analysis can be useful then. There comes a point where deep analysis won't help with picture quality and you'll just have to burn to a double layer disk imo. You can also try Nero Recode, part of the Nero suite of programs (free trial). It's a bit faster than DVD Shrink. Just be sure to not install Nero's InCD.
