I cant find anywhere except for 1 place in the Newbie section of (I forget which forum it was, but it was a beginners forum) that someone said it was impossible to make a copy of a dual layered movie. Is this true. I am asking in here, because I want to hear it from someone with experience. I have several dual layered store bought dvd movies. Am I screwed from being able to make backups of these dvds? Thanks for your help.

2 ways you can backup dual layered dvd's
1. Purchase dvd2one, this baby will backup 1:1 (incl all features etc) to a dvd5 (4.7Gb standard blank dvd), you will notice a drop in quality, but believe me it is minimal AND fast.
2. Obtain dvdshrink, this is free and does basically the same as the above, however I have not used it as I prefer dvd2one.
Look in the software section and click on dvd-r
You can download them here - I think dvd2one is a trial though AND not the full version, you can obtain the full version by visiting www.dvd2one.com, alao guides available.
Dvdshrink can be downloaded here aswell, I do not know if there are any guides posted for this yet!!!
Simple process:
dvd decrypter or smartripper
dvd2one or dvdshrink
nero or recnowmax to BURN
Thanks again Baabaa. That was one other question I was trying to get resolved permanently (how much hard drive space). I read this one guys link (apparently he is quite the genius with this stuff) and he said not less than 60GB I believe it was. That really seemed like an awful lot of space for this whole process, but thanks to you and a few others, it seems like 20GB is more than enough. I guess its mote now, as I went out yesterday and bought another hard drive (80GB) as I also learned that if I had to erase everything, then I probably would not be successful in reinstalling my OS. So I can at least keeep my os on its original drive and not worry about having to erase this new one. I can;t wait to get DVD Shrink. Does Shrink do episodes well do you know? I have read so much and cant remember which one did the episodes. I lost some of the pages Of copied to My Documents and that seems to have been one of them.

I only use a 20Gb hd, but since ripping, it does kick the hell out of it.
But 20Gb is okay - it all depends how much other stuff is on there and how much free space is left.
I have 16Gb left on mine as I do not have an awful lot on it, when I rip and successfully burn, then I remove the files AFTER to free up space.
Anyway dvd2one will do multiepisode, just select the full disc - bingo
I am pretty sure dvdshrink will do the same, yet to try though, but will probably have a play at the weekend as I have not TOTALLY trialled dvdshrink yet, just a quick backup only.
Oh cool. I didn't know DVD2ONE did episodic dvds. Heck, I will use DVD2ONE then for all my episodic dvds then. By the way, after you have finished burning a dvd. How exactly do you go about completely erasing a hardrive so it will be all empty for ripping the next movie onto? As you can see, I am quite new to pc/s from this end (the fun side). I have heard the picture quality using dvd2one was excellent.

To erase the space you have used to copy the movie go to 'recycle bin' where you will find the deleted files then delete them from there. This frees up all the space you used.
