I was talking to a few lads at work and was told that microsoft could completly out buy sony. I didnt believe that but was wondering who as a company ( as a whole not just consoles ) is more powerfull Sony or Microsoft.
As in size, money, employees, and all that kind of stuff
cheers.

sony -
- better at products
- basically owns japan
- playstaion franchise
- more trusted
M$ -
- never ending pockets (shit load of money)
- basically owns the pc world, at the point to which it can kinda dictate what happenes to pc's in the future.
- they are slowly but surley catching up with sony on the products line, eg, xbox 360, origami, also at ces they showed a great product line for stuff that will be coming out in the next few years.
overall i think M$ is way more powerfull, b/c they can make mistakes and all they have to do is pump a whole load of money into it to make it better, but i think sony has something M$ does not and its a big facotr one of the main reasons M$ has not gone into electrical produtcs, it is the fact that most people trust sony, they are the house hold name that delivers great products, on the other hand M$ is also a house hold name but is known more for its money and the fact that you have to keep calling them up b/c of problems with your xp.
anyways thats my take on it.

So are you saying that microsoft is better because they have more money? obviously they must have alot more money than sony which i didnt think was possible as sony seem to have there finger in every pie. Have microsoft got all there wealth from selling windows alone how are they so rich?
Do you think miocrosoft will take over the world? lol
AND.... If there so rich how come PS2 beat back the Xbox i suppose that proves money isnt everything tho.
P.S Dont Toyota own Japan????????????????????????

its to much risk involved and its too big of a transaction
why don't you think competing companues just buy eachother out
sony would never buy nintendo
microsoft has more general money in their conpany
sony exports far more than microsoft though, t won't work
this can be seen in the forbes article pposted above

so microsoft is a bigger company at the mo but im sticking with Sony as the top dog. Seems to me they are the more trusted company and people actually like sony as a company. Every one hates microsoft ive never ever heard someone say HEY microsoft are great. And there for i think that sooner or later they will faze out (as in burn out).
Do you agree?

well funny you say that...rumor has it,now i must stress only a rumor,M$ have sony in their sites in regards to the console side of things, also have nintendo in their sites,i would post a link where i read it,but i have lost it,comp crash...but remember i said it is only a RUMOR,whether there is any truth to it i have no idea...unlikely yes, possibilities ..yes,because of M$ wealth.i mean who else earns 1 mill a minute...definately not sony, even though M$ aren't into everything that sony is into, they donate enormous amounts of money to charity, how many companies like sony do the same?every month bill gives away millions to charity

i read something about ms having sony in thier site too. think about, it microsft apparently had a poor year last year according to financial reports but their porfits were still up on the year before and they relaesed the xbox 360 which cost them loads.
sony dont quite have the same push when it comes to money and the amont thy may lose on ps3, ms would easily afford to buy them out.
in terms of the bigger better company, if its not obvious whom i think il say it, yes microsoft. its just a matter of time before they are into everthing. i mean there are just more and more cell phones starting to use their stuff like their recently released mobile window 5.0. its only a mtter of time before they take the console market, theyve bought out a few studiod e.g peter molyneux gaming studio, so they are in i fo the long run.

Microsoft CAN'T buy Sony out. That would make them a monopoly, and they'd be shut down/split up.

put it this way. If the PS3 is a failure, Sony is in deep S*&t!!! Their video games business has saved them the last 10 years. Without it, they will go belly up.

first off, electronics make up 66% of Sony's revenue
gaming comes in at 9.8%... so if PS3 fails, which is extremely unlikely, they'll be fine.
secondly, who is bigger of the two? Sony, like someone said b4 they have their hand in every cookie jar whereas Microsoft just has gaming and software. which company is worth more? microsoft by far, but when u have someone like bill gates at the helm, ur bound to be a powerful company.
microsoft could theoretically buy sony (seeing as sony is less than a fifth its market value) but i highly doubt it considering microsoft is disliked in japan already.
thirdly, PS2 was/is outselling its competitors by far.

funny you should mention that, theres a rumor arift the gaming industry, critics, etc, etc that microsoft had Sony in their sights.also saying that japan dislikes microsoft,is not completely true, they are just a loyal race, but on the other hand in the buisness world, they have been known to make electronic parts for microsoft.
