I am getting a DVR from Cox tomorrow, and I was wondering if somehow I could get the shows that I record onto my computer so I can burn them to a DVD. Also, is that legal? I figure it should be. We don't have any premium channels, just the minimun cable package with HD. Thank you.

Thank you. I got the Motorola 6412 from Cox. I have found some info on it about drivers, but when I plug the 1394 firewire into it, that itself messes up the cable box (the ff/rw goes 1 second at a time), and it messes up the scheduled recordings. Also, the driver kept messing up Nero, and I had to remove the driver to be able to get Nero to work again. It took about 5 hours to do a 1 hour show, and the only station that would let me record was NBC. It was kinda a pain in the neck! I'll post the page that I got the info and driver from, and everything else I found on the internet pointed to this like it was the only way to do this. Maybe it is. Thank you for responding.

Well looks like you found the right site to help you, not sure why you are having all these problems. You might find this forum ( http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=403695 ) a bit useful though the site you have seems to have all the info you could need.

I saw that one too, but I don't have the right media center to run that driver. But I think that even if I got that to work, that I would still have problems with the 1349 messing up the box. Cox is going to get tired of me calling them everyday to fix it! Maybe someday they'll activate the USB on the front so I could try it another way. Thanks so much for the help.

I used a cable splitter after the DVR output instead of before it. It doesnt change the channels like a regular tuner, it only plays whats being output from the DVR, but it is a workaround that helped me backup what I wanted without buying extra hardware.
