I know that I have never used my PS2 as a DVD player to watch films, so will I use the PS3 to watch Blu-ray films, probably not?
In that case if I buy a PS3 am I going to pay a sh*t-load of cash just for a machine that will only be used as a games machine.
Ahhhh - I don't know what to do. I'm a loyal sony gamer but after this price announcement I'm tempted to go over to the Dark-side (xbox360).
Anyone going through the same dilemma?

@kainx
that was a little ridiclous and unless ur a rich schmuck i dont see why ur so ready to pay extra moeny for the system which if u want it to watch movies u'll be spending an extra 40bucks cause thats how much the Blu-ray movies costs. yeh i c waht u mean connoly, the price is a little high i mean i even said that for the 360 and now it doesnt look so bad for MS.sony has put there fans in a tough position and they have contradicted themselves in one too many ways.the online service wont be what xbox live offers, price is more, controller is same but bites of the nintendo wii's idea, they are snagging ms's idea for xbox live arcade and even the achievement idea. it just seems like sony took a little from all the other consoles and through it in the melting pot that is the ps3 its just sad. in a yr headstart they had over MS they just sat idle and at the end threw it all together knowing their FANBOYS would buy it no matter what they put out. Im actually happy to see that all sony fans are as cultlike(ex.connoly) and im saying ur not an obsessed whackjob sony fan so im not bashing ya connoly.well whatever choice u make be wise cause either way its alot of money

As far as im concerned the PS3 will be the console to get. Yer it may be $499 with a 20gb hard drive, which is a $100 more than the 360, but u get a much more promising console.
1. U get a blu ray player which alone costs about $1000 so u cant say ur not happy about that,
2. The controller easily beats the basic 360 one. Yer u can say its a ripoff to Nintendo's one, but i really couldnt give a ****. The demonstration of Warhawk was just pure bliss and i can't wait to get my hands on it.
3. Online is free, its a simply as that. You dont have to spend another $50 buying live just like the xbox. Its a stupid idea to have to pay to go online, i mean ur the one paying for the games and the internet connection, so why do we have to pay more!!
There are other things obviously such as games, which will start to flow after a short period, but im not going to go on and on.
But anyways im getting the PS3 no matter what and prob going to get the 60gb. I mean for an extra $100 u get another 40gb, suits me fine.
Anyways bye!

yeh sounds good but ur only paying more for a blue-ray player which has no bearing on the console gameplay. tell me some facts when defending ur console of choice,im not trying to sway anyone but sony fans throw money out the window no questions asked and its kinda sad

basically im bored with the PS2 and need a new console. Yer i could of brought a 360 but i wanted to wait until spring, because thats when they said they were releasing the PS3 but of course they lied as usual, and save my money.
Now i just want a console and seeing as ive always had a PS, im going to stick with them. Xbox was slightly more powerful than the PS2 but ppl still loved it. No-one nows whos more powerful this time around, so we'll have to what and see until the real games come out.
I mean wasn't overly impressed yesterday with sony but i liked what they had and for me, all i want is something new and with some life in it!

i respect that, not the usual cultlike approach.good logical reasons of getting the ps3 over the 360.im not here to beef with that argument or sway u to the 360.i used to be a sony fan but me and tons of people i know got unreliable CS from sony when are ps2s broke multiple times.good luck with the ps3

Its a simple choice I suppose. The gaming capabilities are very similar so unless you are going to use the PS3 as a Blu-ray film veiwer its simply too expensive and the 360 wins.
I will need to see some top exclusives for Sony or some drop dead gorgeous games in the next month to persuade me to stay loyal.

and being as most likely by the time the ps3 is out the 360 will have teh external HD-DVD drive available the Blu-ray player isnt really a bonus feature that the 360 doesnt have. its just a brand name thing essentially.sony is big on overdoing things that dont count and shortchanging the things that do matter...
