I bought Maxell DVD-R but got CMC media!?

Okay, this has already happened a couple of times to me. I purchase a stack of Maxell DVD-R's expecting the reliable Ritek media but instead end of with a stack of CMC crap. Is there any way to tell what manufacturer made the discs short of actually buying the media?

That is why the only media recommended that states Made in Taiwan on the label in Verbatim. Stick with Made in Japan media and you will have less guessing when you are in the checkout lane.

That's why I recommend Made in Japan on those maxell dash's.
You'll get the Hitachi's on those spindles,and the taiwanese spindles will be mixed in with them at most local stores like walmart/office depot/etc.Getting very hard to tell the taiwanese ritek maxells,vs the taiwanese cmag maxells. I don't recommend them anymore,unless they say made in japan.

Now on the plus format maxells: Still Hitachi on the japanese spindles/jewel case packs,and Ritek-R03 on the taiwanese +8x. These are very good from either country. Same price for either japanese or taiwanese.

I did notice maxell using Made in Taiwan on some of the plus 8x full hub white inkjet printables. Those are also mixed in with the Japanese hitachi white inkjet printables.

Can you take them back?

Most stores will take them back.Some may give refund/allow you to switch spindles/or give you a shopping card for future purchases.
