Hi, i recently did the tape mod with my pstwo by opening the ps2two and taping down the button there. I have also stuck down some tissue in the opening over the power reset button. Im using swap magic 3.6 and everything is working fine. I only got one question. I've also put the disc brake to the right and put an object in to have the disc brake in that position. However a number of people says that this isnt necesarry. Can someone please explain why ? why does someone want to put the disc brake in that position and why does someone say that is no need to do it ?

yea i had the same problem a few weeks back, if you leave it there, it will scrape against the side of the CD or the CD will not spin at all and the laser will be screwed. I have fixed this by taking that thing off with a screw-driver and it is waaay easier than jamming something in there. Hope that helped.

im using a little magic key component there so i dont think the cd i scraping into that, but does it hurt the laser to have it jammed with a magic key comp in that position? i like some different comments about that. If it hurts to have a little "magic key" jam the brake to the right I would like to do something else. My cd is spinning so does that mean that my laser will not be screwed?

Dont worry about it, having the magic key there is just a way of tricking the PS2 into thinking the lid is closed. So there is no difference between having it closed or using the keys, your laser will be fine. (I thought you were using tape and tissue anyway?)

scorcho: Using the magic key on the brakes and closing the lid does the same thing. It opens the brakes and cd keeps spinning all the time. In my opinion they didnt even have to put that brake there anyway. CD stops spinning pretty quickly when you open lid or power off anyway.

vxt is exactly right; the disc brake gets pulled back into an "off position" anyways when the lid is closed -- look for yourself, and you'll see a tab on the lid which pushes it back. So unless you like playing your games with your lid open (why?), there's no reason to do anything to the disc brake at all: this is why most people consider the modifying the brake completely unnecessary. While the brake might've been useful for games which utilize some form of in-game disc-swapping (like the Monster Rancher or Dynasty/Samurai Warrior Xtreme Legends games), there is a secondary game protection check which prevents it from working with the Swap Magic.

As a result, it's true that the brake is rather extraneous to begin with, considering how fast the discs spin down even without the brake.
