Can anyone tell me where to find information on the process of downloading my digital home videos from my sony camcorder, to my sony vaio and burn it to a dvd using dvdit! I am new to this, and I just want my home movies on dvd. If anyone can give me some advice i would appreciate it. I can download the video to the hardrive, but i am clueless where to go from there. thanks

I'm not familiar with DVDit but basically you want to plug your digicam into your firewire port, at that point your pc should see it as a new "drive". Software that comes with your digicam should allow you to view and download whatever you select. That will then be saved to a folder as an mpg file (ie. filename.mpg). Your dvdit (or many other programs) will then transcode to dvd format. By that, I mean it will take the one .mpg file and create a folder named VIDEO_TS, and it will create several files within the folder, named video_ts.ifo, video_ts.bup, video_ts.vob, and more files named something like vts01_01.vob. You then use a burner program to burn the VIDEO_TS folder to the dvd. I use Sonic myDVD which transcodes and then burns. Lots more information can be found at www.vcdhelp.com/dvd, and at www.doom9.org.

I would suggest using something other than DVDit. The interface for chapter settings will drive you insane.

DVD Architect is good for chapter settings & much more IMHO.

You will need to set .VOB size to not exceed 1GB by the way.

I think you will find that the footage needs to be rendered before outputting or before video compliant files are created. The best software for creating a DVD from your video camera is Pinnacle Studio 8. It's very easy to use and will do all the rendering and output to a DVD disc with two clicks after you have chosen the scenes you want. Alternatively Sonic 'MyDVD' allows you to upload your video footage directly on to a DVD disc without any rendering or editing.
