I'm just curious as to how to go about identifying genuine ritek DVD media.

I got a batch of 50 DVD+RW from allmediaoutlet.com (reputable?) and the ones they sent me are silver top/looks like dark purple on the bottom.

I've read that the serial number for Ritek media are XX-XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXetc (2numbers followed by 16 numbers). Does this pertain only to Ritek DVD-Rs?

THe serial (on the inner band of the DVD+RW) are 12 numbers followed by a space and another 12 numbers...

Thanks.

BTW is allmediaoutlet.com reputable? Anyone have problems with them?

Hello
From this site on the software page you can download a free program called ADVDInfo. This program will read the leadin on the DVD disc and tell you exactly what brand it is.

I tried dvd decrypter to try and read the info but I couldn't find any relevant info (as to whether they were riteks or not) on these discs.

They don't burn properly and the three I've tried have spots all through the recorded surface...

I doubt these are riteks...the tops are silver but the bottoms...its hard to tell. They look silver but if you tilt them you can see hints of dark purple...

I'm using a sony dru 500ax (firmware 2f) and nero 5.5.10 to burn these.

Hello
I would try this program it is really small and one of the best for geting the disc Id. If the Disc is silverish straight on, they might actuall be a knockoff with the hacked Ritek inset. There were some warnings on a release of unofficial Ritek on this forum in early April in the DVD-R section. The ADVDInfo program is only 160kB and to get the info to know if a true Ritek select Pre-Recorded information in lead in, and in the text area you should see the Ritek name. If not then you know for sure that the discs aren't Ritek.

I tried advd info but I guess I'm missing a .dll file or something.

I get an error message when I try to read the pre-recorded lead in data.

I'm running XP pro.

In Advd info I scroll down through most of the pull downs and that usually works.
T2K where are you geting media type info in Nero? When I go to the Recorder tab and Select Media info It only tells me that X amount of space is free. I have never been able to have it give me any other useful information. Same is true before burning and selecting in bottom right corner Media ( I select that only to make sure Nero things space is available on the disc befor burning).

What version of Nero are you using?
I am aware of three way's to get the media info in Nero Version 5.5.10.20, which include clicking the bottom right corrner were it says media before burning a disc. In the top one of the tabs is Recorder and selecting Media info and the last is clicking on the little Cd icon with the blueish i. All these ways get me to the same place and I learn is that 4482 MB is free on my disc. It dosen't say that I have an Optiodisc, Ritek or Legacy disc in the drive. Is there an alternative in Nero that does specify this info? or should what I said above be telling me what disc I have?

I don't think these discs I got from allmediaoutlet.com are riteks.

I was told by a friend that riteks (dvd-r) should have a clearly visible purple bottom like verbatims (light purple).

Anyone ever use ritek dvd+rws? Should they have the same deep (and clearly visible) purple dye on the bottom?

Hello
Ritek should be a deep purple on the bottom, but the tops can be either shinny (silverish) or White. Depends on if you have thermals or shinny. The Thermals allow for writing with a printer.
