This update will stop you from running homebrew, if this screws up your psp its not my fault. Thanks

Click the link above to download the latest system software for the PSP? (PlayStation®Portable) system.
This software update may include security patches and new or revised settings and features which will change your current operating system. We encourage you to check this page from time to time for software updates and to always maintain your system to use the latest version of the system software.

Notice
This update is for customers who own PSP? (PlayStation®Portable) system model number PSP-1001 sold in North America. DO NOT update your PSP? system through this Web site if you own a different model of the PSP? system. There is no guarantee of proper operation with other models of the PSP? system.

Also available in French or Spanish.

An update to PSP? system features was made available on April 25, 2006.
If you update your PSP? system, the system software will be version 2.70.
To view the End User License Agreement, click here.
Features updated in system software version 2.70 include the following:

Macromedia® Flash® content can now be displayed in [Internet Browser].
You must perform an activation procedure under [System Settings] to enable Flash® content to be displayed.
The system supports Macromedia® Flash® Player 6; however, some features are not supported.
[Connection Settings] has been added as a setting under [Settings] in [Internet Browser] > [Tools].
Audio content from [RSS Channel] can now be saved on Memory Stick Duo? media.
[Automatic] has been added as an option under [Rate] in the control panel of [LocationFree? Player]. For details on the LocationFree? Base Station, visit http://www.sony.com/locationfree/ownerslounge/psp.

A new file extension has been added to playable AAC formats.

[Enable Flash® Player] has been added as a setting under [System Settings].
You must be connected to the Internet to activate this setting.
Options to display simplified Chinese or traditional Chinese characters have been added under [System Settings] > [System Language].
[RSS Channel Settings] has been added as a setting.
[UMD?Video L/R Button] has been added as an option under [Video Settings].

Certain conditions that have occurred when using Memory Stick PRO Duo? with free (recordable) memory space of 2 GB or more are now solved.

Hints
If your PSP? system software version is 2.70 (or later), you do not need to perform this update. To check the version of your system software, select "System Settings" under from the home menu, and then select "System Information".
Do not use data other than official update data acquired through our company's update server or from a UMD?. Also, do not perform an update by any means other than those described in our product documentation. If an update is performed using data from another source, there is no guarantee of proper operation and SCEA will not be responsible for repairs or service under warranty.
Depending on the software title, you may not be able to play without first updating the system software.
This system software update includes all features contained in previous versions.
Depending on the system software version, screen images shown here may be different from the actual product.
To connect to the Internet using your system, you must be within range of a wireless access point (or hotspot) that allows connections to the Internet.

You can update your system software by any of the following methods:

Network Update
Use the PSP? system's Network Update feature to perform the update. Click the link above for update instructions. Refer also to the PSP? system instruction manual.

Update using a PC
Download the update data to a PC, and then save on Memory Stick Duo? media. Start the saved update data on your PSP? system to perform the update. Click the link above for update instructions.

Update using a UMD?

*As of April 25, 2006, this method is only available for updates up to version 2.60.
