Welcome to aD!
I haven't done this one but here are two suggestions for you. They will handle any copy protection out there right now.
Run AnyDVD in the background with Shrink. Free 21 day trial - http://slysoft.com
Or rip w/ DVDFab Decrypter (free)then open those files in Shrink and process as usual. http://dvdidle.com/free.htm

Thanks for the advice. I have been running Shrink, Decrypter and Fab for years (just never had an issue I needed to post until now).

I did, however, get the second disk to work, so I have a feeling the first one has a flaw!

Thanks!

The 1st disc could have a flaw - bad press maybe? Try cleaning it off if your haven't already.
Try another drive if you have one - some are better than others. If it's not a copy protection issue - just mo but DVD Decrypter is the best ripper for these flaws.
Let us know how it turns out!
