Xbox Fried/Getting games of Xbox HDD

This weekend my Xbox took a dump. I heard a frying noise and a burrning smell. I think a transistor has gone bad. If I turn my Xbox on it will stay on for a few then turn off when it gets hot.

I have a 300GB HDD that has all my games on it. Can I hook up the HDD to my computer and accsses the folders to make xISO of the games and burn to disc till i have enough money to get another Xbox?

Or

will i have to wait till I get a new XBOX and softmod it and install the 300GB HDD to get to the games?

Your first idea wouldnt work sadly, but you could proboly fix your xbox with out getting a new one. il get back with the solution, (Im late for a bio test.)
