DVD Writer is SLOW!

Hello,
I recently bought a Emprex DVD R/RW Writer - 16x. Double Layer External USB 2.0 Drive.
First Of all. It takes me like 1 and a half hours just to burn a god dang 4.35 gig DVD!!! It says it could go all the way upto 4x for DVD RW but it's going to like 1.0x only! It's soo slow,i hate waiting soo long for this.
Secondly. This dvd drive doesn't work on this computer but it works on my other two. I'm not sure why but when i try to burn a dvd with DVD Decrypter, it goes up to 1.0x then falls fast to 0.0x meaning it stopped burning.
Any Ideas?

check in device manager under usb controllers to see if have enhanced controller as that is usb2. also what is your system specs plus ram amount both free & used & hd free space.

Well I thing. On this and another computer, when i plug in the USB. It says this drive will preform faster on a 2.0 USB or something, but the problem is I dont know what that is...
I have 12 GIG of Free Space and 26 Used and I have 40 total.

if getting that message about being faster with usb 2 than you have usb 1 which will explain why it is slow burning. if not a laptop than get a pci usb 2 card.

oh umm. Well On my other laptop the 3rd computer, I think i have a usb 2.0 on it and it still only goes upto 1.0.
And Another thing, i'm still wondering why it wont work on this computuer thou.

is that computer a clone or a name brand like dell or compaq? what is the make & model # of the computer or motherboard? how much ram is on each computer & how much is free?

Ok Here goes:
This Computer - HP brand, I'm not sure about the make but it has 386 or something RAM.
The Other Computer - DELL brand, has 128 RAM
The Laptop - Sony, has 484 or something RAM.

the dell doesn't have enough ram to burn dvd's besides what windows are you using on it? on the front & back of the hp computer will be the model # of it, post that # so can see the specs on it.

lol really? Cuz i've burned 2 dvds on the dell so far.
Umm, the specs on this computer are:
Intel Pentium 3 processor
930 MHz, 384 Mb of RAM
HP Pavilion 7850
The Laptop:
I can't check the make because I dont have it heere right now
but i know it's 400-600 MB of Ram somewhere in between there

Thanks, Buty i'm not sure how that tells me why it doesn't work on this computer at all. And why it burns real slow on my laptop.

the specs tell you that you have usb1 but your burner is usb2 so burner will run at slower usb1 speed instead of faster usb2 speed. also you have not mention what windows you are using or what ram is free to use out of the 384meg!

Hi,
Nevermind about the other computers besides the laptop. What i've noticed is when i shrink a 8.5 gig it takes 2hrs but when a 4.7 gig is shrinking with DVD Shrink it takes 10 min. (LAPtoP uses 2.0 HI SPEED USB) I saaid that might be because of it'ts encryption BUT when i go to burn it with DVD Decrypter, the 4.7 shrinked from the 8.5 goes at like 1.0x but the 4.7 shrink from the 4.7 goes at 4.0.
you know why this occurs?
