k, my friend brought his xbox to my house because th DVD drive wasnt working, i did everything to it, opened it clean it. He doesnt want to buy a new DVD drive, so the best next thing i thought was to softmod his xbox but i cant do it with out a DVD drive, is there a way to hack the xbox HDD and put the softmods on it????

Without a working dvd drive?? yes but what's the point?? You will need to build an eeprom reader to get the eeprom data off the mobo, as if you want to play games with it you will need a bigger drive...BUT..and here comes the but!...As you have no way without a working dvd drive of making legal backups that's as far as I'm going to help you..sorry
