I know this is a really dumb question but I have been trying for hours to find out to get XVID to work. I've downloaded it but don't know how to use it. Where should I install it to? What program do I need to view a movie that is using Xvid? Thanx

You need to get an XVID codec. Go visit http://www.xvid.org/ for the info.

I sent you to the wrong place originally...sorry. Go here http://www.roeder.goe.net/~koepi/xvid.shtml and download the latest file. Run the file and it installs it on your system.
Read the help files from there but your xvid movies should work after a reboot.
Good luck.

My favorite DVD Compression is XviD. Are you using FlaskMpeg? If yes, then the XviD codec should show up in your list such as DivX Pro,Mpeg-4 ect. The only thing I've noticed is that when I start a movie, it plays sluggishly until about 20 seconds. Then it kicks in and plays normally.

Thanx guys. However, I downloaded XVID and the movie plays, except it is upside down. Now what?

I sort of had the same question as bogobutt. So after reading this I am still a bit confused. If I load the codec per pcostanza's post (5/14) above, then the XVID will now play on what player? Windows Media and/or DIVX Player 2.0?

Guys, I did nothing different than what I mentioned in an earlier post. I can run my Xvid movies in many different players after doing this. WMP 9, Divx player, PowerDVD and my ATI player.
Download Gspot here http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ and see what it tells you is missing. Other than that, I'm still rather green with this stuff too.

Well I hate to be annoying, but I downloaded everything u guys said to and no luck. After downloading G-spot my video image was taken away and I was left with audio. Furthermore, G-Spot says that the movie is okay and that is should play just fine. Well now what?

Geez, I don't know what else to add but I'm sorry if anything I've suggested didn't work. It sounds to me like the codec is corrupted. If you want, try removing the xvid codec and reinstalling. Other than that, I'm at a total loss.
Hope it works out.
