Windows Media Player 11 is available for download
Posted by Dan Bell on 17 May 2006 - 18:19 - Source: Microsoft
Looks like Microsoft made the new Media Player 11 available today. In case you want to try out the new integrated music service with a tasty slice of DRM, the "Urge" is being offered for a 14 day free trial as well. This service has offerings from the quite popular MTV and VH1.
When designing Windows Media Player 11, we looked at the needs of a wide range of users?from people who are just getting started with digital media to discriminating audiophiles with very large collections on their PCs. By incorporating this feedback into the design process, we made some significant changes to the Player to deliver a simpler, more visual way to navigate music, video, and other digital media and further improve the overall experience.
It certainly is not bad looking. Might have to give this puppy a whirl. For those that want to read about this newest release, learn more about Urge or wish to find the download, simply follow this link.

Iv been playing around with it for a while now. On the outside it just looks like the old wmp10 dressed up in black with "urg" (more rubbish like msn music) added to it.
Turns out it has more glitches than the old one. Cant move more than 1 item in the "now playing" playlist, visualizations do not work in fullscreen, and others. Other than that, not bad.
Oh yeah on this computer i have xpsp2 tablet edition.

You need to get Winamp pro to rip to mp3
It also does wav
wma
mp4/acc
he-acc or-acc plus
It also has numerous catagories of plug-ins.Hundreds of skins to choose from,as a matter of fact I have just started to create my own as they supply everything you need to do so for free (that goes for the plug-ins as well). There are heaps of mind blowing visualizations, which are also submitted by users. These are only a few of the features of Winamp, look around the website, check out the awesome support forums and the Winamp community.

does aac play on wmp? if not your problem might be that you dont have an aac filter installed.
edit:heres what a google search found: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/CoreAAC_Directshow_filter.htm
Or maybe your encoding programs do not recognize the *.aac extenson. maybe try selecting "all files" next to the "files of type" in your file>open dialog to open the file, or using windows explorer to drag-and-drop the aac into your encoder.

A really good ripper that has awesome error correction (for scratched CDs) is EAC.
