Hopefully you Shrink gurus will add more information if this post becomes as useful as I hope.

Seeing this forum build with almost similar burning and extracting issues, and the almost the same answers are given...I have taken quite a bit of information from those that are better at the game then I am...and have come up with a quick solution that may work for most of you.

Simply: Don't rip/burn the entire movie as a backup.

Now, take that lightly...I mean, unless you really want all those startup ads, movie trailers, ending trailers and menus/sub menus...if you only want to put in the DVD and watch the movie (setting your original back in the case and on the shelf)...I have found, that in conjunction with AnyDVD (best solution I've seen yet since the demise of DVD Decrypter), DVD Shrink using the ReAuthor method, and just grabbing the Title 1 and ripping it, has proven 100% effective. Even with all the movies that this forum has been posted about...well, most of them anyways since I can't claim to have seen them all. But, for those that have had issues, such as Fun with Dick and Jane, King Kong, Chronicles of Narnia, Chicken Little...etc, I have successfully ripped just the movie without any cycle errors, can't read sector errors....or even having to wipe VOB sectors using VOBlanker which I used to use before I finally let go of DVD Decrypter.

Now, if you still want the entire movie, I have yet to see AnyDVD and CloneDVD or DVDFab fail.

Bottom line, with all that I've read here, I am a firm believer in AnyDVD and will continue to use/support it. It's worth the price if you want to continue saving your valuable media.

I agree - very good advice.

Never come across a movie that cannot be burned using simple methods.

Though no longer updated DVD Decrypter is also very good in curcumenting new protections using the ISO Read and Open Disk Images modes.

It bemuses me to see so many posts about being unable to backup movies that are very simple.

There are two solutions:

1. Keep it simple and use programs such as AnyDVD in background and DVD Decrpytrer, DVDFabDecrypter or Shrink for ripping.
2. Replace malfunctioning interface between chair and keyboard.

AnyDVD, Shrink and DVDD.

Only programs you need. Haven't had a problem since Brothers Grimm at Christmas time.

Even if a new protection gets added, just give the Slysoft guys a few days and they will update to fix the new problem.

LoL so true The Brothers Grimm my first real problem, but when you get to know what you're dealing with (different copy protections) the easier it is to get around it.

Also I mostly just do main title back-ups and haven't run into a problem in hmm...can't really remember, been quite a while.

That's why I am really hoping that those with problems read this post before asking about the issues they are facing.

I still see more posts being created about errors...and instead of copying/pasting this suggestion to every thread, I am hoping they read this and give it a try.

For those of you having errors, give backing up just the main title in Shrink a try. However, I only backup this suggestion if you are using AnyDVD.

i does seem so many people have so many problems with
these and many other programs aswell....................

my self as well, don't care about all the junk, just
the main movie, always seems to be eaiser to me.

i think a lot of the posts on this forum relates to
operator error, as well as people's computers...

all anyone should need is AnyDVD, DvDShrink(movie only)
DvDDecypter, burn...baby burn...............

Yep, pretty much what I do when I just want to get a couple of movies copied. I use Nero to burn with though, it's bought and paid for so I might as well. Plus you get a nifty log file to read!

I've got the new modded version of Shrink that calls up ImgBurn which is a more up to date version of Decrypter's burn engine. A bit better for those DL copies than Decrypter, I think. This version swaps Decrypter for ImgBurn.

I've got it listed here if you want to download it:

Watching the originals is kinda painful!

Some people really do want an exact copy though and of course we will help them with that!
