first off: http://www.cd-rmedia.co.uk/cgi-bin2/details.pl?id=vdvdr1_ijp_id
Good deal? Good discs?

Second:
I'm wondering with prinatable discs, is it better to use labels, or print on to prinatable media, because I've heard stories about the print on printable discs looking really shoddy, and I've also heard horror stories about labels on discs coming off and being 'integrated' in to the player.
So... experiences?
Sorry if it's been done before, but I couldn't see any recent threads on the search about labelling vs printable discs.

Thanks.

Normally Verbatim discs are very good. But I think I've read where some are having problems with the 16X discs. I'm not sure about that though. I've never used their printable discs.

I do use printable Maxell and Fuji discs. I think they do and look great! If someone is getting shoddy print jobs on printable discs, it has to be that they don't know what they're doing, or the printer they're using, leaves a lot to be desired. I, and many others here, use the Epson "R" series printers, and get excellent results, printing directly on printable discs!

I have made the mistake, in the past, of using labels on cds and dvds. No more! They are nothing but problems, sooner or later. The edges tend to start curling after awhile, which can cause damage to your player's laser. Not saying it will. Just saying it can. Adding a label also adds to the thickness of a disc, which can cause problems. I'd stay away from labels. Better safe than sorry!
Good luck!

I haven't tried the 16x verbatim full hub inkjet printable media.

Their regular 16x media is awesome. Awesome when burned at least 8x. Crap when they were burned at 2.4x. These 16x verbs were designed to be burned faster, not slow. Keep that in mind in case you run into issues.Keep the burn at 8x until everything checks out ok: error scans/playback on all players/and maybe even try to attempt to re-rip one of those backups.

I have no issues with full hub white/shiny inkjet printables. A far better way than using those sticker labels.

Media quality is more critical for inkjet printable media. I only use Taiyo yuden/Verbatim/and the maxell hitachi. The maxell's are trickier. Japan and taiwan makes maxell full hub inkjet printable-whites. Huge quality difference between the 2. Those japanese spindles of maxell will yield hitachi/and the taiwanese will yield cmags/prodisc/or something just as bad.

1)I consider sharpies the best overall, safest method of labeling. This includes cd/dvd marking pens-in case sharpie doesn't ring a bell.

2A) Inkjet printables would be next-make sure it's quality media.

2B) Lightscribe media-make sure it's verbatim, not HP or any other brand name. You have to have a lightscribing capable DVD-RW drive.

3) Thermal labels. I'm not familiar with how they work.

4) Last- sticker labels. They gotta be on perfect, and use a special applicator tool to keep them aligned correctly.Keep an eye when viewing them. Any issues, remove that label as see how it looks. They can build up heet/separate/peel up-on the outer edges..

Myself:

I use all but thermal printables. They all look different, depending on the how the labels look.

Full hub white inkjet printables- Darker covers turn out better.
A glossy or semi-gloss disc would look better.

Shiny inkjet printable-These look awesome. All the colors, but a huge 41 mm circle in the middle. I need full hubs in these-they would look sweet.

Lightscribe- Has a 3-D look to them, and several different shades of brown. They're ok,but not even close in comparison to my shiny inkjet printables.

I gotta a pic in my user profile page with some of the different labeling discs I use. Not totally 100%,but I'm matching my covers up to how they'll look on all my types of labeling media.
