I am trying to use DVD Decrypter to rip Catch Me If You Can. I keep getting an error message. I have tried to rip it using DVD Shrink also as well as trying to copy it straight from the disk to the hard drive. When I try to do it from the dvd to the HD it tells me I have a cyclic redundancy check error. NEver had any trouble out of any other DVD's. Nothing works! The file it keeps getting hung on is VTS_01_04. I have tried this on two seperate original copies of the movie. Any suggestions? Please Help!!!

First clean the disc with some non-absorbant material such as rubbing alcohol. In the DVD Decrypter settings, go to tools>settings>I\O Folder and check ignore read errors. Go to the Device tab folder and check fast error skip m8.

I have tried cleaning it and it still hangs in the same spot. Every ripper I try stops around the same spot on the file. Thanks for all of the help I will try to change those settings and see if it helps. I have tried the fast skip option and the ignore errors. It does it and when I play the file there is a small glitch but other than that it plays fine. But when I try to compress it using dvd shrink or instant copy it says the files are corrupt and it can not continue. Also I have noticed that the file is smaller than the original when the fast skip is on and ignore errors. Could this be the problem why it says the data is corrupt.

You might have to initially play the disk with a software DVD player such as WINDVD in order to unlock the files. Simply let it start playing with WINDVD and pause it. Then minimize the WINDVD window and open smartripper (the best!). All the files on the disk should be accessed perfectly. Then use smartripper to decrypt the DVD. Keep only the .VOB files and use ifo-edit to make the necessary ifo/bup files. Then you're in business!

You have the right to disagree my friend : )

I dont happen to believe DVD Decrypter is the best. And Smartripper has been the no.1 d/l for as long as I've been using this site...hmm that says a little something perhaps. LOL

However, SmartRipper has failed to backup 2 dvd's for me and DVD Decrypter got the job done. At the many forums I visit, 2 very popular
ones use DVD Decrypter in their guides for backing up DVD's to all kinds of formats. I believe this is due to the "ignore read errors" and many other options that SmartRipper doesn't offer.
