I've been recording dvd+r and -r for a few years. I just recently recorded a dvd+r dual layer (mem*rex) and my sony 6 disc dvd player would not read it until I burned it to a single layer.
I use winavi video converter.
Is there something I have to do different to make dual layers playable?

Thanks,
Amber

You could try booktyping them,if your DVD-RW drive supports it.

Booktyping turns the plus format media into the dvd-rom format. This fools stand alone players and other dvd drives into thinking they are actual dvd-rom format-the most universal of all dvd formats. Not all drives support this feature. Some may need a special utility/certain burn programs/or cross flashed-hacked firmware.

What's the brand name and model# of your DVD-RW drive?

It's the Pioneer Dual Layer DVR109.

I don't know if mine can do that but I'll look into it.

Thanks :)

That model uses a special hacked firmware called the buffalo firmware to achieve booktyping. Very risky!

If it's a last resort, check out cdfreaks.com . Those members know their stuff when it comes to crossflashing and using hacked firmware.

You could try verbatim DL media. Sometimes a player may not like a certain media like your memorex dl media. Verbatim is the best quality DL media out there.

They can also be sensitive to certain burn programs.

I found a link that says you can set the booktype with Nero 7 which is what I have. I'm working on doing that now but I think the instructions I found were for an older version of Nero.

Ok, It works now. I have Nero 7 and I just updated my firmware on my DVR109 with the latest Pioneer firmware from their site.
I opened Nero, selected the DVD9 setting for DL disks and burned it.
Now it plays in my DVD player with no problems. So no need at all the flash with some other special hacked firmware.

Thanks for all the help :)
