Hi,I realize there are a few posts like this one.So here goes nothing!
I feel the price of ALL consoles when they first release doesn't matter with the exception of people who will camp out in the street in hopes of getting one.I say this because even if the ps3 was priced at $399 or less ,nobody is going to get one for that anyways. When the 360 came out the only place you could find one was ebay and they were anywhere from $600-$1000.
I find it funny that people talk about the ps3 price as it's weakspot. The only thing about price is when the console becomes available then you can talk about $399 vs.$599 until then good luck finding one for $599 come november.

Unless your stupid or just plain lazy, you won't have a problem getting one on release date for 599.

I'm geting the 599 system, But i do think the 599 system is going to go faster than the 499 system. At this price your going to have people do there homework.Thats not a everyday price for a console.More people demand the 399 system than the 299 system Microsoft had during launch.I know the EB store here has 299 systems but they cant keep the 399 system in stock new or used.

In this instance, the price is a deterrent for me. While I am sure a lot of hardcore gamers will pick one up at launch, I will wait it out until the price drops. So far I haven't seen any announcement of a must have launch title for it as well, so waiting a while also lets them build up a library of games.
I bought a PS2 at launch then a Game Cube a couple years later. This cycle I will do the reverse. For the price of the $599 PS3 with no games (I wouldn't even consider the lower end model, same as Xbox Core) I can have a Wii and 8 games. I really like the PS franchises such as Ratchet and Clank and Sly Cooper so I am sure to buy one at some date in the future, but not at launch at that price point.

Yeah right, I guess were all just lazy and stupid because THEY can't make enough consoles at launch date so we can all have one.Half of the people waiting in line on launch time will be there to turn a profit on ebay. They don't even play games.
I agree with you xian.I also love ratchet and clank and sly and many other sony exclusives .Xbox pretty much has one main draw which is halo. But even though I like halo it's still overrated.I also think as damondash mentioned that the $599 one will go fast, because buying the 499 one defeats the purpose(no hdmi bunk on that).

i find your argument dumb anyhow, you cant argue 599 as a weak point because they will sell out?
These consoles dont just disappear into thin air you know, ppl buy them so you can say the price is a weakpoint, although most hardcore fanboys will buy the system no matter the price so launch wont be affected as much. But the next consumer will definetly look at price and it will be a deciding factor, whether they go buy a diff system, or wait for price to drop, so i dont see how thats not a weak point.
And i dont know why ppl keep mentioning 360 prices on ebay. You dont think ps3 on ebay will be worst? just look at sonys fanbase it will def be worst. The greater the deman the more ppl will be willing to pay on ebay.

lol I can't even afford the HDTV yet, so by the time I get one maybe ps3 will come down.Besides I kinda wan't to wait until it's hacked frankly so I can play back up copies, but that may never happen with these next gen consoles.
As far as price both 360 and ps3 are the same in my mind.Because after you get xbox live and a HD-DVD player add-on the price will be about the same.Add in the fact that the cell is more powerful(remember the cell's capabilities have not even been explored,it doesn't even need a grphics card.)Also what's all the fuss about a graphics card of that type alone sells for 500 bucks.

Stupid meanining too stupid to preorder or find creative ways or lazy, meaning too lazy to wait in a line. If you want one bad enough at 599 on release date, you'll get one. If you want one bad enough and can't get it for 599 on release day and you end up paying more for one on Ebay or some other way than you truly are stupid...and lazy too

You have a point with the pre-order thing. But the way you say waiting in line sounds alot easier than it is.Were not talking about waiting in line were talking about camping out overnight in the cold of november dude and you may not even get a primo one after all that.
The fact is they should have enough at launch so nobody has to wait or pre-order.This is sony not some new kid on the block, the ps2 was nowhere to be found on launch and there was a chip shortage.Just because your not willing to pay for their mistakes doesn't make you a lazy bastard.
And I'm not buying one on ebay if you look at my previous post I'm not exactly for these ebay guys who buy one just to sell it, because that's one of the reasons there sold out so fast.

I always preorder 2 or more of the new consoles. One for myself and one for those poor mothereffers on ebay!! haha. When the PS2 came out, I think I sold like 3 on ebay alone for about 800 each. I preordered and got 2 and than when i knew it was gonna be a hot commodity, I paid this guy 20 bucks to stand in line over night with me at best buy to get 2 more.
I am just saying if you want one bad for 599 you'll find away to get one and if not, well you didn't want one bad enough and are gonna have to wait a few weeks or months to get your hands on it or you have money coming out of your a$$ and will pay bigtime for it on Ebay. I guess you wouldn't be stupid then, you would just have to be filthy rich!!

Tycobb, if you have the money and really want one and you live in a smaller town with not many options I would just find out when gamestop starts the preordering online and just try to be one of the firsts to do it that way. You may get lucky and get one shipped on release date.

I think the holiday release on these console what make these ebay fools go out and get them.My friend told me a couple weeks ago that he was going to preorder 4.Two for him and two for ebay that mayde me hot when he said that.I told him your the reason people who just want one system cant get one because of your greed. When the PS2 released i didnt get one til March.I tryed everything to get one except ebay.I waited in line at Bestbuy for 9 hours just for them to tell me there was soldout.I will not make that same mistake this time around im calling everyday til they tell me they taking preorders.Plus be the first one there to pickup my preorder because during the PS2 launch some people that preorder still didnt get there system at launch.

yep damondash and it's something that hadn't really been discussed before this at least like this. But yeah I don't make it up ,I sell stuff on ebay when I'm in a pinch and when the 360 came out I couldn't get one but they were all over ebay and actually I would have purchased one for $399 maybe even $450 tops but not $800.
Now that they are available in stores for $399 I still don't own one b/c I figure I'll just wait for the ps3 now.But Iv'e played it quit a few times and enjoyed myself but still it's to late now.I can only afford one system right now but eventually I may pick up a 360.It's like you said even some people who pre-order will not get a primo one.

The price may not necessarily matter at the beginning. Keep in mind most of the people who will buy the system at launch will be eager fans of Sony/Playstation, so there won't be any less demand for the ps3 as there was for the 360. (ebay all over again)
However, after a year or so, when it's just regular old consumers that don't really have a preffered company, than the price could dissuade them.
Or maybe I'm completely wrong. But that's my take on the price. Consoles aren't like gasoline, so it there is certainly more price elasticity. I guess the ps3 will determine how much, exactly...

oofRome: hi,Yeah I agree, my feeling is that sony said if we debut at $399(primo one)everyone else is going to make all that money so why not charge $599 after all that's what they'll go for anyways. Also they are losing money on this console even at $599 and plan to make it up later.I think they will drop the price after a year and then all the rich, ebayer's,and sony fans will already have their's.This way the regular consumer can have one too.
At the same time though I understand that not only will 360 drop their price too,but that nobody on this forum want's to wait a year after a console release including me.See my point really wasn't to say I agree with the price!Just saying the average joe isn't getting one at launch anyways and beleive me hardcore fans will be about 2 million in sales but avearge joe's will be about 8 million and sony knows it.

Yeah. The ps3 will most likely be the most expensive console at any given point in time, so Sony certainly has a challenge ahead of them to lure price conscientious consumers.

When yout factor in that most people getting 360's or PS3's will play online, the PS3 could actually be cheapper in the long run. You get an 360 for 400 then a wireless adapter for another 100 plus 3-4 years of Xbox live. You are already over the PS3's price easily

Yeah and Blu-ray too (hey man that HDTV cost alot, I want the darn hi-def dvd player if it's free).I think In the end anyone who buys a ps3 will be happy cause it will last bout 5 years or more and I'll tell ya I've never had one break on me.
In the course of 5 years you know how much FREE online gaming I'll do!
How many hi-def movies I'll watch.
How many awesome games I'll play!
music, pics, streaming, playing with linux(new for me),etc.Man $600 that's cheap for the use I'll get outta this thing.
