hello!
i am considering buying a matrix infinity green dot, and have a slimline ps2, but i am worried about the laser buring out. i am prepared to buy a laser fix chip also, but in reading the matrix infinity stuff it says:

Very Stable (Thanks to the sleep mode the IC will never Overheat) CD Lens Safe (Avoid CD lens damage by sending un-necessary signal to the Drive Controller)

so does this mean that i dont need to buy a seperate laser fix chip??
thanks in advance!
mike

The laser fix is intended to prevent the laser itself from burning out, something like the modchip allowing too much voltage into the laser diode.

The best fix is the Summ0ne fix, avoids the mechacon crash that burns out the laser coils, and it's cheap and simple..If in doubt use this..It even saves the laser in the event of one of the switches coming lose with a swapdisk..

be be 100% honest, i would do it in any slimline despite what anyone else tells you.
Yes it is said that any model after the V12 is ok and does not need it, but what is an extra $10 for a laser fix compared to a $50 laser.
Better safe than sorry.
I have a V12 with Summone laser fix and DMS4 Pro, have not had any problems with mine.
