Hi all, a few months ago I posted a bizarre incident regarding a failing DVD drive. Well today I went out and bought a new Pioneer DVD drive and installed it. Got recognized by computer doing boot up and Windows installed the correct driver for the right device. However when I insert a blank DVD into the computer something strange happens. I had explorer open and inserted the blank DVD, tried a few different brands I have - the drive whirs for a second then apparently detects it, and the drive indication in Explorer changes from 'Pioneer DVD R Drive' (not exact) to 'CD Drive.' When I click on the drive to see if it recognizes it as a blank DVD so I could burn anything (I do have Nero installed but I was just trying to use basic Windows Explorer browsing) I get an error. "Drive is not accessible - Incorrect Function." Any help on this would be appreciated, this is a brand new drive just installed and I have a feeling it has something to do with some stupid setting in Windows. Thanks in advance.

Pioneer Internal DVD/CD Writer DVR-710 (110D)

Edit:
Well the drive does burn DVDs using Nero, but I thought at one time that blank DVDs inserted into the comp like blank CDs received a Windows prompt and allowed drag & drop. If this isn't the case my mistake, if you can - I still have a small problem.

Thats what my Pioneer does when I put in a blank. It just whirs a bit. No prompts or anything else comes up. If I put in a movie then a "open with" prompt appears.
I guess this is normal.

You could try this... right click on the drive in Explorer and select Properties. Select the Auto-Play tab. From the top drop-down menu select Blank CD (I don't see a blank DVD listed).

Below that, click the "Select an option to perform:" button. This turns off the "Prompt me each time to choose an action" button

Pick the option from the list. There are not many.

I have CopyToDVD installed so I have a "Create a CD or DVD" option listed.

I don't like my blanks to do anything but spin up so I'm leaving mine alone!

Cheers,
Frank
