DVD-R fix to play on DVD player/ Disk Error Fix

Hopefully this will help others to get there dvd to play on there dvd player.

I was having a problem playing my burned DVDs on one of my 3 players. The one that never played them always said disk error. Until I notes something when I was trying to clean one of my burn DVDs. I notes that the ring that shows the area that has the data had a big gap between the center ring of the DVD. I then start a thread so see if some can help me with it.

Shortly after I got a response, I read the info they gave me an I did some research.

Here?s my specs before I go on.

I have a LiteOn SHW-160ps DVDRW with latest firmware
The media that I use was imation, sony and staples bran
I?m using Nero 6.6.1.4.

I really didn?t get help from the internet but I played around with Nero and by only one click on one setting it helped my problem.

After you ad your video file and adjust your quality settings and add your chapters and temples you will come to this final page to adjust your recording settings.

All I did here is just adjust the speed. I used a 8x imation dvd-r. I set the speed to 6x and clicked on USE Burn-at-once. As shown bellow.

This worked for me by making the lead in circle more smaller and the dvd was able to play on all my dvd players.

Hello adarksoul,

Imation uses some crappy manufacturers for some of its disks, like CMC Mag. This can be the cause for some disks not playing correctly in players. Also the speed of the burn can make a difference in obtaining a better quality burn as you discovered.

Good quality disks include Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, and Made in Japan labeled Fuji and Sony disks.

A good rule of thumb for burn speed is to not exceed 1/2 the max speed of the media for media rated above 4X. For really crappy media, 4X is often the fastest one can burn without problems. It depends to some extent on the specific burner.

Also don't burn to the outer edge of the disk. For single layer media set the target size to 4350 or 4300mb.

I know Imation is a crappy brand. I read all that here in the forums, but what I was trying to say is that the brand of the dvd can probably not the cause of a disc read error on some dvd players. My problem was that the lead in ring was to big and so that?s why 1 of the 3 dvd players didn?t play dvds that I burn. So really if you are having problems with your dvd player not wanting to play your burn dvd. Look at how the dvd got burn. If the lead in ring was to big then probably that?s what is causing the dvd player not wanting to play it.

Just look at the pictures that I posted above.

The first one has a lead in ring bigger then I the second one. So after I just selected Burn-at-once in Nero that made the lead in more smaller and the dvd was playable in the dvd player that didn?t want to play any of my burn DVDs.

Hopefully you understand what in trying to say.

I?m using Nero 6.6.1.4.
This version of Nero contains some bugs, I would uninstall it, run this clean tool to remove all traces http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/en/Clean_Tools.html
and then install this slightly older bug free version

Package 2

Actually that's not the lead in you are seeing there. That band is the "R-Information Zone" which contains the Power Calibration area and the Recording Management area. The lead-in is pretty much indistinguishable from and is actually a part of the main "Information Zone". This zone also contains the lead-out which you can't really see either.

I'm getting my information from here (and using my micrometer on a T-Y blank, LOL)

Light reading, hehehe:

BTW nice shots of the disc! This is an interesting topic to discuss. I'm glad you figured out how to make it work.
I'm assuming Burn at Once is similar as disc at once which is required for a DVD to be compliant with the specs.

The other choice when burning is Track at Once which definitely does not work for DVD-Video.

It's great to see folks like you who come along and do their own research and get the problem solved. And more importantly....

You gave some thought to other people who may run across the same thing and posted your solution. Way to go!

Cheers,
Frank

Thanks for the complements. I was really getting disappointed with my self because I was not able to get my dvd player play my copies. I was thinking of returning the burner or buying a new player, but I wanted it to work. Cuz the player that didn?t want to play my copies was the one in the living room and I wanted to enjoy watching movies in the couch. Also I don?t have much money to go buying a new player.

Ones I got it to work I wanted to posted it on the forums because I was searching for a solution for the my problem, but really didn?t fine the result. So now that I have found a way maybe others can solve the same problem I had.
