I have a DSL for my desktop but how does a wireless connection for my laptop work?

Does any type of wireless PCI card for my laptop will work? Like, since i'm online with my desktop and does the PCI that install in my laptop will find my DSL connection and goes online with it(at the same time as my desktop)?

I dunno how this works, can someone explain it to me?

-Thanks-

laptops don't use PCI cards, they use PCMIA cards. If your laptop doesn't have built in wireless network, then you need a PCMIA network card, and a wireless router. you can usually find those two together in a package which is cheaper. I recommend Linksys, they're one of the best. Your DSL modem plugs into the wireless router, and then your desktop connects to the router, and your laptop should be able to connect wirelessly.

For the best quality mp3s use EAC (exact audio copy) to rip your audio CDs and LAME to encode them. Follow this guide:

once you have that linksys router make sure you come back and ask about wifi/wireles security and MAC: filter list to only enable your mac on the system

also make sure to change the routers SSID *anything you want* remove it from brodcasting the ssid.. change the routers password.. wep/wap encription..

this is if you end up getting it..

If you have a fairly new DSL modem, it may have wireless capabilities already.

Laptops will take PCMCIA Wireless cards, USB Wireless cards and newer laptops can take internal Wireless cards.

Determine if your DSL modem has Wireles capabilities before you buy a Wireless router.

If your Wireless connection is set up correctly, multiple machines will be able to share the DSL connection.

Usually DSL modems come with a four port switch which means you can have four simultaneous wired connections. If the modem also has Wireless capabilities, you will be able to several more machines to share the connection, if you choose.

Listen to the previous suggestions about your Wireless settings and security.
