"ive heard people talking about the , ps3 marying games so you cant buy used games is this true ?"
No jd I have never heard that nor would I put even a bit of stock in it.
But perhaps your confused with their various new anti-piracy/hacker technologies.
In other words sony as usual want's us to pay for the games rather than rent them, back them up on a DVD-R, and keep a copy for ourselves. This is true for all next gen systems not just ps3 and was also for current gen systems like ps2 as well.Sony has no power over renting .
It's the publishers property(ea,activision,ubisoft...etc.)not sony unless it's a sony published game and remember sony pictures(spiderman, just married, bad boys...etc)well they are still in blockbuster as we speak.

Wouldn't it be a bit hard to make backups - most games are gonna be Blu-ray disc aren't they? (Yet another technology for users to circumnavigate)

i think this is what he was referring to:
"A device and method for protection of legitimate software against used software and counterfeit software in recording media? A specific title code is read, and if this title code has been registered, the main unit shifts to a normal operation. If the code has not been registered, verification software is initiated? If matching does not occur, the disk is processed as illegitimate software? Since only titles for which legitimate software has actually been purchased and which have been initially registered in the machine table can be used, resale (so-called used software purchase) after purchase by an end-user becomes practically impossible."
http://www.joystiq.com/2005/11/08/playstation-3-wont-play-used-games/
this is what sony had to say:
"I would like to clarify that this is false speculation and that PlayStation 3 software will not be copy protected to a single machine but will be playable on any PlayStation 3 console."

well i just read a new article that came out today
http://www.gamesradar.com/gb/ps3/game/news/article.jsp?articleId=...
Quote: [PS3] Sony makes moves to stamp out lucrative second-hand market
Words: Matt Cundy
Wednesday 24 May 2006
High street games shops have been told by Sony that there will be no PS3 pre-owned sections in their stores as it will be illegal for customers to sell any next-gen PlayStation games that they've bought, retail sources have revealed to GamesRadar.
It seems that Sony is planning to adopt a licensing system that will mean gamers won't own the PS3 titles that they've paid money for. Instead, they will only be purchasing the licence to play the game and that the software itself will still be Sony property - meaning that the disc won't be the customer's to sell.
We assume that the thinking behind this move will ultimately be to stop PS3 games being resold several times - which currently snatches potential sales away from Sony - and to counter the impression in consumers' minds that games are only really worth their pre-owned price and are not worth buying new.
When we contacted Sony, it issued us with the following statement: "We have made all of the official announcements at E3 and cannot make any further comments at this time. We will be announcing more news running up to PlayStation 3's launch."
If this is true, it would suck for all sony fans :x

"retail sources have revealed to GamesRadar".
Lol who the heck is gamesradar?
You will be able to rent games.Trust me.And yes there is anti-hacker technology and always has been ,as usual from ms,sony, nintendo.
timmy1970: The answer to your question is no.I doubt there will be any games in Blu-ray format. The Blu-ray is for movies that will play in high definition, unlike the current dvd players which play in only standard definition. In other words ps3 will include a high def dvd player free! While other consoles(360,wii) dont!

Ahh, thanks Tycobb, that clears things up. I think the whole Sony license (as opposed to software distribution) is ridiculous. They might as well join a neo-nazi movement. This can't be healthy for their goodwill lol. I don't know about you guys, but the reason i never pirated PS2 games is because i like owning them. And basically this means that once you buy the game, you're stuck with it!! No more sales of games in times of poor cash flow haha, and we'll just have to forget about trading towards newer releases at retail stores like EB then... I am getting quite pissed off lol...

I don't know who the hell gamesradar is, but since it was posted by(wooopz) a pro microsoft fan it doesn't suprise me.

Oh such manipulation!!! lol I didn't even notice that. Yeah i'd go by gamespot too - or Gamepro, top site that is. Yeah i mean i hate a mod for PS1 and had about 200 games for christ sake. I never finished em all because they were so cheap and i had too many. Buy actualy buying my PS2 games i've clocke dmost of em and enjoyed more. And i like having the manuals haha. But yeah i've spent a fair amount of cash :(

That's true. When you work for something you appreciate it more when you get it.As where pirating it's just free and you get bored.I can get the manuals online though for the most part.
I havent really done much pirating on consoles, but I just got into it for the pc and now I have almost every new game for the pc free! It's so freakin easy just get torrent software download the iso. file, after that install deamon tools(freeware virtual drive) and mount it,It will install now get a crack for it and that's it.

Yeah. I've used Alcohol 120% for games like GTA San Andreas. I mounted it and cracked it. I'm kinda over GTA thats why i didn't buy it. The whole gym/eating etc thing in San Andreas wore off pretty quick and became a tamagotchi like chore... The game was sweet apart form that though. The main games i buy on PC are fps. On that note if that article soes in fact turn out to be true (no 2nd hand market) would that be like Valve and Steam then - If you buy HL2 off the shelf, and sold it, the next user couldn't use the same key unless they had your steam account... Is that right Tycobb?

It's funny you bring that up.I tryed pirating hl2 and It was the only one I couldn't because of steam. It installed fine, but when I went to play it called home and said I didn't have a steam account.ah well.
I play the pc games with gamepad support.Godfather, truecrime new york, gun, halo, tomb raider legend, xmen the official game etc.. were all for free and have gamepad support too.
I have every pc game now for free except hl2.Yo if you need instruction's I can give em.It aint hard at all.

Haha, i give it some thought. I really don't mind buying games off the shelf though so i doubt it.Thanks though Tycobb. Gamepad support hey? I've got one of those USB--> Xbox controller adapters. Works well (though it can be a bitch to map buttons) and i really like the Xbox S controllers (well built). Would be good to see a similar thing done for PS2/3 controllers though. Imagine using a PS3 controller on your PC; should be achievable really, considering that they hook up to the console via bluetooth... You'd need to have a combo with the keyboard though - not enough buttons!!

When I say gamepad support I mean you don't have to map buttons at all.Just plug it in and it works!
I used to map button's for games without support, but aiming is horrible and I kept gettin shot up.
Newer Games with gamepad support are :
All ea sports games
godfather(feels like i'm on a console)
truecrime new york(havent tryed it yet.)
gun
xmen the official game
halo(it has an in game programmer thingy)
tomb raider legend(the best gamepad controls ever!)
But make sure your gamepad is a supported one, like logitech or it wont work, you can google it too .Just type in like "supported gamepads for godfather"
See people think I know alot about games, but It's just cause I get em free so I have so many.I gotta go. I'll be back some time. See ya.
