Sony and Taiyo yuden makes majority of the 8x and 16x media.
Sony08D1/SonyD11/and SonyD21 are all decent media. Get the spindles that say made in japan,and look at the top of the spindles for white/octogon spacers. More likely to get a hold of the sony tys with that spacer.Better media,for the same price as the regular sony MID coded one.
The round/gray spacer yields those Sony MID codes-majority from taiwan,but some made in japan as well.
Plus and Dash? Two different formats.It's all about compatability between the burner and stand alone players. Data,shouldn't be as much compatability issues between the 2. Dvd movies,big compatability difference.
Older burners were only capable of plus or dash format. The newer models-above 8x usually do both formats.These are called dual format drives. This compatability effects your backups when you view them on stand alone players/game consoles-ps2/and other pc drives.Some of those drives may favor plus/dash/both/or none. When you see the No disc inserted error,usually it's a format problem-and switch to the opposite format.
What's your burner's brand name and model#?
Some perform better with plus,some with dash,and some are crappy with very low stand alone compatability.
Some models can booktype. This booktyping changes the plus format to dvd-rom. Not an actual dvd-rom,the beginning part of the backup that tells a drive it's a dvd-rom. Not all drives can do this,and only the plus format can be set to booktype-also known as bit-setting.
