@ rods48: heres a couple of things you can do 1st off
Quote:
CdRomPeripheral : DVD-ROM 16X atapi Port 1 ID 1 DMA: Off
this dma setting needs to be on
Quote:
Physical memory : 255MB (261616kB)
Free physical memory: 73MB (75556kB)
Memory in use : 71 %
your physical memory is a tad low, are you doing other things when you are attempting to burn your projects to disc.If so try and stop it and only have the most neccessary programs running, like clock, and your burning application.Others like the net, music, virus programs can be turned off so that you can make more memory readily available for your burning app and the tasks that it is trying to do.

I dont see your pc stats, can you provide them please

See how you fare, by changing the dma and closing down all apps that arent neccessary.

and before i forget,
Quote:
Last possible write address on media: 2295103 (510:01.28, 4482MB)
Last address to be written: 2286127 (508:01.52, 4465MB)
you are attempting to burn pass what the disc can accomodate.You only have 4.38 gig to play with and you should only be going to 4300 as anything pass this is where the dye (or the outer edge as some people see it) is the most uneven and where a lot of errors can creep into your burns.

I forgot there are Nero logs in the Shrink forum..DUH!

That is just the DVD-ROM drive, but still you should turn DMA ON for it. Follow my buddy alkohol's guide to fix it:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038

The firmware for the burner is current.

You dont have enough physical, or, free memory. 512mb is the Minimum amount suggested for DVD ripping, and for a good reason. You can try it with less, but you have to have everything perfect and close down all programs not needed for burning, and even then it probably will not burn sucessfully. Memory is cheap and easy to upgrade.

You have the best version of Nero in 6x so no update is needed or recommended.

You are burning too close to the edge of the disc. Change the target size to Custom 4300 and you wont use the last 1mm of the disc where many problems occur on the cheap media.

The only DVD media i recommend is Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden. There are only a couple other manufactures i would also use, but when doing troubleshooting, i only suggest using the best. Tys can be found online at http://www.supermediastore.com or locally under Sony, Maxell, or Fuji, if Made in Japan is on the spindle.

That is a good speed for a DL burn, but you were not doing one of those. 4x is a better burn speed to use, if your drive supports it, but 8x should be your Max until you get many more sucessful burns.

YES!!
That is one of your problems. And that statement makes me wonder why you didnt listen to that member, and/or, are you multi-posting?

When i saw this post, no one had replied to it. You talk of other members helping you, with this problem, and its only me and all the voices in my head here..
Oh well, my advice still applies. No other major problems were seen by me in this log. If you can not afford to update your memory, post back, and i will try to find some memory managment program that will be free, and will free up as much memory as possible.

Look what i found:

http://www.download.com/FreeRAM-XP-Pro/3000-2086_4-10516960.html?...

Just in case you cant go the memory upgrade (which is still the best way to go) 512mb MINIMUM. MINIMUM.. Im not going to say it three times as someone else already said that to you.

Give those things a try and post back here, and only here, if you continue to have problems. I will work with you, but not if you violate forum rules. Im not saying you did, im just putting that out there because of your "other memebers " helping you statement. If you are posting a new thread because the help was long ago, then you are doing the right thing by starting a new thread here. Just chalk it up to paranoia on my part.
Quote:

but that part there means someone saw another log of yours and told you about memory. Ok, i guess i am going to have to search here and see what your other problem was.

@guyrus
When i looked at this post, it was un-answered, but i took some time with it. Im afraid most of our work has already been done as rods48 has another thread not that old, where many ppl have been working on the same problem.
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/343080
@rods48
You should have posted your latest burn log in that thread, and myself and guyrus would not have to repeat everything already suggested by many good members in that other thread you opened. 16 may is not that long ago, and when you reply to your thread it moves the thing up so even if it was on page 2 or 3 before it now pops up to the top of the shrink forum.

I feel used.

rods48 Im reporting this as a multi-post. You can explain yourself to the judge, not me. You see, it makes fixing your problem very difficult, besides being against forum rules, as i knew NOTHING about your other post and i wouldnt have wasted my time REPEATING what binkie7 and others already said in the other post.
AND in this post
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/327074
How many times do you have to hear the same thing being suggested?? Memory upgrade and media change to TYS OR VERBs was suggested in the 7 april thread. I would not have repeated that if you would stick with one thread. See, now i dont feel like helping you, and you are probably a nice person. You violated forum rules, and made me do extra work that has already been done by others, and ignored by you, for whatever reason.

As you know, multi-posts are against forum rules, and the reason for me why its a good rule is what just happened to us. Yes, it is good to look at any Nero log and report back what we see as wrong, but it is WASTED if the person is not listening to us, or has heard this before and doesnt want to do the suggestions for whatever reason.
My time could have been better spent on someone who hasnt been helped before, and will listen to suggestions. These types of posts bring up a red flag for me.. PROBLEM POSTER.. I avoid those types as things usually get ugly when ppl violate rules, or wont listen to advice.
Keep up the good work. You caught the 3 biggies in that log and didnt miss anything other than the media. I took longer looking at it, or you would have seen that one too, if creaky taught you. :)

Now im going to have to burn some just to chill out. I shouldnt let things like this get to me, but it does sometimes. All in a days work at A.D.

@rods48
You came to the right place, but please read the forum rules about multi-posting. We all want to help you, but multi-posting makes our job of helping you much harder for us.
Start a thread like you did, and keep posting in that thread until all is fixed for you. That is the way it is supposed to work, and we wouldnt have to re-invent the wheel each time you have a problem.
Im not mad, just upset. Ill get over it.

Wise words there guyrus, but when rods48 opened up a thread on 7 April 2006, and was told to change media to Verbs or Tys, upgrade memory to 512mb min, and to fix DMA.
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/327074
Doesnt do that, then opens up this thread:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/343080
and gets the same answers, fixes none of the major problems again, and then posts here in this thread asking for help. I feel like my time and effort is wasted. If rods48 would have followed the advice given back in april this thread would not be here. Nor would the other one. Its that simple. If someone is unwilling, or unable to follow advice, no matter how nice the person is, we cant help them.

i'm far from wise these days my friend, but you have to realise that some people take longer to get it that we are trying to help them.How do we not know that rod48 was just getting confused with all the help and not understanding all of it,was scared to ask for more help, so he opens this thread hoping to get a different set of ideas.Although this is the wrong way to get the answer as it is a multipost but as he states that he is a novice, dont we or should i say arent we obliged to give him the benefit of the doubt this time.

@guyrus
You have much more patience than me. I didnt have a beer, but i did find some nice herbs to mellow things out. Ja man, we be jamin now.
I try to give novice and newbies much slack and forgiveness, as we were all that at one time or another. But someone who doesnt listen will not be helped. If the instructions for fixing things were not clear, then rods48 should have said " i dont know what you mean when you say fix DMA" If following alkohols DMA guide didnt work, or was too complicated, then i, or any other memeber would have bent over backwards to explain it, or linked to another DMA guide. rods48 gave no feedback other than to start another thread saying help me, getting the exact same help,(by others) not following it, and starting another thread saying help me (this is where we come in). Is it just me that finds this very annoying???
Confused, scared, or whatever, i cant help someone who does not follow advice, or give feedback as to the progess made. I cant do it, and neither can you. They have to help themselves. Report back with progress, or problems. We will be as gentle and un-threatening as it takes to help, and will take instructions down to a very low IQ level if need be. Hopefully without coming across as superior or condecending in the process. I know nothing of rods48 IQ or age, and it doesnt matter what those numbers are as long as rods48 can, or will follow advice. It is also good advice that has been given and repeated by many ppl for over a month. The message is going out, but something is wrong on the other end. Message sent fine, acknowledged on other end, but not acted on.
I hope you can see where i am coming from on this. If i would have seen this same problem in a thread, with Gwendolin, and Binkie7 replying to the post, i wouldnt reply to it, unless i saw something they missed. And that doesnt happen very often with those two.
A novice that knows how to turn on a computer, type, read, rip a dvd, or at least try to, operate multiple software programs, and open up muliple threads in a forum, is smart enough to follow good advice. Smart enough, but maybe not wise enough. Ok, i will stop talking about this. I seem to have completely missed sleep for this day/night and i have many things to do today, so no sleep for the wicked or weary. Sleep is over-rated anyway.
***edit***
@guyrus
Even when i get upset, i will still work with them. Today im not upset.
This thread is closed, but the original one is open and that is where we can continue working this problem:

gwen and karen have lots of patience, trust me on that score.I use to be arrogant when dealing with the same questions day in and day out with out the people actually attempting to try what we suggest.But now i just see it as a challenge to see if i can stay cool, calm and try and get a solution.If not it's time to get the big guns involved , like creaky,neph,ddp, maxburn, binkie7 , gwen, loco etc

some people need a little more help than others, but hey 'he said he'd look into getting more ram', and try to change the dma.

Progress has begun ,now we just need to nurture it a bit more and then we have the makings of a productive member of AD.Stop being so stern, we know you have a heart of gold, maxburn.we know better than any one.Let see how it progresses and in a couple of days if i havent seen a reply i'll pm him to see if he requires more guidence
