Somehow after playing my PS2 only a few hours prior, I am now getting the dreaded "Disc Read Error" and can't play my PS2. I'm attempting to work around this problem since the solutions that people have described in order to fix the error aren't working, but I'm not sure if what I'm trying to do is possible. I was trying to understand how to install the HD Advance Memory Card Exploit in order to start HD Advance from my memory card and then I'd be able to play my games from my hard drive without having to use the HD Advance CD. But since my PS2 isn't reading any CD/DVDs, is it still possible to achieve this?

Also, I have a roommate that also has a PS2, but his isn't altered like mine is to where I could use a slide card on it. But his PS2 is at least working, so is it possible that I could utilize his system in order to get my memory card exploited and then use it on my PS2 in order to play the games off of my hard drive? Any advice would be appreciated since I'm pretty bored right now since I can't play my PS2.

No... since memory card exploit requires you to use a PSX game CD to launch it, you are pretty much stuck. Couple of things you can do:
1) Replace the laser
2) Get a modchip that has DEV1 mode so you can boot ELF files directly from the memory card

Personally I'd say do (1), before that though you could try adjusting your laser by using an oscilloscope (if you have access to one and knows how to use it), or at least clean the laser head

Thanks for your advice, although it's not what I was hoping to hear. On a positive note, I found a place that fixes PS2s locally and I was able to take mine there to get it fixed and they already noted that the laser is still working, but it's just not working correctly for some reason. Hopefuly it'll be fixed within the week and I won't be bored out of my mind anymore. Thanks again.

If that's the case it would be a matter for them to adjust the laser, which would be a lot cheaper than replacing one :)

Yeah, my fingers are crossed hoping that they'll be able to fix it. They just have me waiting in suspense until they call me and let me know the final diagnosis... either I'm going to be happy or I'm screwed.

Well, the place that I found was a bust so I'm still screwed over right now. I'm just reposting in here in hopes that someone knows of a site that sells cheap, old or refurbished PS2's? If so, please let me know. I'm looking for something that'll just get the job done to load up my HD Advance DVD disc and paying $120 for a new PS2 seems excessive if I can find something around the range for half of that.
