What's up people...
I was posting this because I couldn't find anything about this topic in previous posts.

I've had my burner (Sony DRU-820A) for a few months now and for the most part, it's been working very well. At first, I was using only DVDShrink to burn movies. This was going good until one day, I tried to rip and burn an animated DVD. I think it might have been Space Ghost season 1. Usually, when I try to open certain DVDs in shrink, they'll freeze during the process. This was the case with that DVD so I stopped it and didn't bother trying again. For some reason, after that happened, every time I tried to burn other DVDs, they would take a lot longer to rip and burn. I mean a lot longer as in 2 hours compared to the 30-40 minutes it took before that.
So what I did was- I went to the Sony site and downloaded the firmware upgrade. Doing so did the trick and my burner was back to its good old self. I was burning whole discs in like half an hour again.
Then a friend told me about DVDFab. He said it could rip a lot of the DVDs that shrink couldn't do. So I started using Fab with Shrink and had excellent results.
Then, all of a sudden, it happened again. I tried to rip one of the family guy discs only using shrink. It paused about a minute into opening the disc. So I stopped shrink and opened Fab. I used Fab, then shrink, and burned the disc successfully. But I noticed that after that, all the discs I burned were taking an extremely long time. This has been the problem for a few weeks now.
I tried checking for another firmware upgrade but I already have the latest one. I really don't know what to do- burning 1 disc is taking me over 2 hours. That's ridiculous!

Any feedback is definitely welcome and any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks, J1025

Device Manager > IDE ATA\ATAPI Drivers> Proprities of your controllers...if they are in PIO just reset them. saugmon told me about this nifty trick.

Thanks for the advice PepsiMaxx, but I already tried that. I read that thread you were talking about and followed the steps but my burner is in DMA mode. I didn't have to change anything.
