I apologize for being a newbie; however, I am really rabid over the upgrade from MPT 3.3 to 4.04. In the 3.3 version, I (am almost certain) I was able to clone my v551 pesonal settings, speed dials on the phone, my favorite background, etc. and put them on a new v551 with just the restore option in moblie phone tools.
I know I have duplicated the phone and its 'pretty' settings (not just the calendar and contacts) many times because my v551's have made two trips to the not-so-tidy bowl, a dip in fresh aquarium water, and some other miscellaneous incidents. Well, I received a free v557 upgrade from Cingular with a new 64K chip since my longstanding 32K chip was maxed out.
Before I actived the 64K sim, I connected my v557 with the new chip to my pc, ran the restore from Mobile Phone Tools 3.3, and found all of my wonderful settings in place on the new phone. When I realized that the v557 was annoying with that ticker and missing some major 'aesthetic' features on the v551, I popped the new 56K sim chip into my surviving v551 and was happy to have a backup v557 phone with my speed dials already setup-- just in case I experienced another 'holster failure'.
Live update started to download the 4.04 update, which was disguised as a good idea because it better supported the v557. Once the 4.04 installed itself, all of my 'cloned' files were gone from the Mobile Phone Tools folder and only my calendar/contacts remained in the new Motorola Phone Tools folder.
Upon discovery that the complete backup feature had been removed in 4.04, I uninstalled the application immediately, purged every registry, dll, and com entry related to bvrp software, and reinstalled the Mobile Phone Tools from the CD. I ran the LiveUpdate until I was again at Mobile Phone Tools version 3.3. Alas! The complete backup fuctionality was still gone! Poof!
Now, I will admit that I sometimes have problems remembering certain details (Bad Thyroid! Bad!) but I have witnesses that watched me clone the v557 with MBT v3.3.
Does anyone have suggestions for this most vexing situation? I would greatly appreciate it.
(BTW, I do have P2KMan, and P2KCommander, but haven't used these in a couple years.)
Thank you for your time.
