Not true. dvd burners usually rip at 2x but dvd rom drives can rip at 10x or more. I have both so I know this is true. I have a one year old Samsung dvd drive that will rip dvd's at up to 9x with dvddecrypter.

Actually, the manufacturer is now JLMS - JVC LITE-ON IT Manufacturing & Sales, and the drive is LTD-165H, but yeah, lets stick with Lite-on(ly ;-) This is only with DVD-ROMS (burners still are LTR-xxxxx).

¡I must say mine gets to the 16x! But, of course, only at the end of *full* dvd's (it gets to 32x with audio, too!). Its somewhat noisy when going with the laser to the metal, and will make a ugly noise during some seek leaps (or something like that); I was really scared at first, but no scratchs yet ;-)

Anyway, its a great puppy to drive, and you can keep it quiet with Nero's wonderfull Drive Speed (when reading data; the drive will slow itself when playing audio or DVDs - I don't think that has to do with Smart-X, nor with ABS, but happens on all LT's =)

This baby is the last thing my "All in One" box was lacking. AND, to my amusement, I got it for US$35.00, in *México* (usually prices are %200). Unbelievable.
