I am brand new to modding, so i dont really know anything about it. All I know is my friend has an XBOX, and when he turns it on a screen comes up that has a list of a ton of games then he selects one and the game starts, I want to know if there is anyway to do that to my ps2.

Yes you can you can have somthing called a hd advance to put your games onto to make them load faster. All you need is a harddrive and the hd advance it self. If your wondering what type of hard drive you should get a 200 gb maxtor works fine as do all the types of hd advacne.

yes, get a DMS4 Pro modchip installed. If you have an older model PS2 then all you need after that is a hard drive and a network adapter.

If you have the slim PS2 you will need to get an HD Combo case and the DMS4 Pro chip.
This will give you room for the internal hard drive.

HD Loader will also work, but if you want it to work really easily like the Xbox does you need the DMS4 Pro modchip. That way it will load directly to the ToxicOS which lists the games on your hard drive, then you just pick one and play. You will also have the ability with tha chip to use the integrated cheat device. You take codes from AR Max or Gameshark and use a program called Maxconvert. You convert those codes to raw format and enter them into ToxicOS on your chip. You can then play games with cheats without any cheat discs. Just like having trainers on the Xbox. You can also use Toxic OS to format the hard drive. It will also install games strait from the disk to your hard drive just like DVD2Xbox does for the Xbox, no need to remove it and stick it in your PC to load games.
It is the closest the PS2 is going to get.

Not that i know of. But hopefully someone who has one can chime in. I see the flash for the Matrix Infinity says it has a loader and support for EXTERNAL hard drives but those are slower and you would not want that. Go here and ask the source:
http://www.infinitymod.com/cgi-bin/matrix/site.pl?page=chip_infinity
The DMS4 Pro chip has a lot of hard drive featues because the team that makes the flash (ToxicOS) built it into the flash. Matrix Infinity has it's own flash and can not use the ToxicOS, that is only for the DMS4 Pro chips.
