I am curious to what the difference between all the types of Images that can be made and read these days. Some i have seen are ISO, MDF/MDS, CCD, BIN/CUE, SUB, DAA, etc. Do some formats have special encryption/safety protocol capapbilities? (like Safedisc, Securom, Laserlock, etc). I wanted to convert my RAR packs of software backups to one (or as few) image formats as possible, since mounting inages on virtual drive(s) is so convenient with MagicISO, Alcohol, Virtual Daemon, etc. That brings up another curiousity, whats peoples favorite virtual drive and image software? Thanks for any words.

Uhm, hokay. Where to start.

ISO is the easiest to burn.
MDF/MDS and CCD can hold error data, useful for backing up copyprotected discs.
AFAIK most of the rest are fairly the same. Bin/cue is a little bit dated, but it's still a fine format.

I personally prefer Alcohol over all others, mostly because Daemon just about wiped out my disk control system, and because it ships w/ spyware in the demo version.

Generally, I'll image burn something w/ Nero to a .iso or a .nrg, and mount it later w/ alcohol.

I've probably forgotten something, but...yea. That's what I think.
