After firing up VirtualDub and trying to open a downloaded avi file, I got this, by now, familiar message. The format in question was stated as 'MP42'. So I perused these forums for solutions. There was a suggestion to convert the file using DivX2Mp4. This I did but now VirtualDub complains about the format 'DIV2' (Unknown).

I must be too thick to live, but can someone explain what is at issue here? Am I codec deficient in some way? Many thanks in advance for any enlightenment ;-)
