Well, I just found out the hard way that the disc I used to record last night's season finale of LOST has some sort of problem. It was a Fuji +R disc.
What, if any, programs can I use to scan blank media to ensure that this doesn't happen again (man, is my roommate gonna be pissed that I don't have this).
I have DVD identifier, Shrink, el cheapo Nero express, DVD Decryptor. Any of these do or is there something else?

does DVDDecrypter rip that disk to the hard drive? if it does then you can start all over again.
use Nero Speed Test to test the quality of the burn.

Ironically, considering all the rip & burns I do this didn't happen when I was copying something.
This was a DVD recorder thing from the live broadcast. It worked fine all the way to the end, but as I was watching in real time instead of the usual message about writing out the track that you usually get there was this "problem with disc" message.
Even more ironic is that all season I've been recording the episodes onto these cheapo Staples discs, but because it was the big season finale I decided to "splurge" with the better Fujis.
I can't even look at the unfinalized video on the disc, which you can usually do with the recorder (a great feature so you can put multiple episodes on the same disc and not have to wait weeks to watch them).
I just figured it was dumb luck that it just happened to be a bad disc that I chose.

For me, when DVDShrink fails, (the "cyclic redunancy check" aka cant read the crappy disc), error, i use DVDFabDecrypter. It never fails (yet!). I have a friend who insists to burn on crappy Nexxtech discs, which shrink always has a problem with, but Fab comes through every time.

To reiterate - this was not a PC burner, it was a stand alone DVD recorder for recording off television
THE PROBLEM IS NOT WITH THE SOFTWARE/HARDWARE.
It was a defect in the disc.
Every type of blank media is subject to failure. I have had failures with Verbatim. This is to be expected.
When it happens with a rip/burn copy scenario, no big deal - do over. But when you are recording off "live" television it is a very big deal.
In order to avoid this in future, I had hoped there might be some sort of program (especially one I might already own) to scan the disc before using to detect defects.

At last someone understood.
Cool, I already have that program. Thanks for clearing that up. Now if I could just find a repeat of the show this weekend things would be hunky-dory.
