My Toshiba dvd recorder will not accept this disk. Why? Also, if I buy TY 4x disks, are they really 4x? I was told that 4x TY's are no longer made, and that 16x are being sold as 4x. Thank you.
welcome to AD~ :) first off, the panasonic discs you are using are GENUINE Taiyo Yuden made TYG02, good quality stuff!, however, my guess is that your Toshiba dvd recorder has an outdated firmware, hence not being able to recognize the "faster" rated discs~ :) what model are you using? it would be prudent to update your firmware...
2ndly, if you buy the TY 4x discs, chances are you WILL NOT get the TYG01s (4x DVD-R Taiyo Yudens), whoever told you that 4x TYs are no longer made is 100% accurate and it's true :) the 2nd part of your statement is NOT true however, depending on where you purchase your media, they COULD send you either the 8x rated DVD-R TYG02 (the same ones you having problems with currently in the Panasonic brand) OR they could send you the 16x DVD-R rated TYG03s which i can ALMOST guarantee based on your issues with the 8x Panasonic DVD-R, will NOT be recognized by your Toshiba dvd recorder- due to firmware being outdated) :)
hope that clarifies things a bit, what you need to do now with the current issue at hand is update the firmware for YOUR PARTICULAR model of Toshiba, in hopes that once that is done, it WILL recognize your Panasonic 8x DVD-R, which are Taiyo Yuden made, TYG02 will be the MID coding, my current "favorite" and IMHO best DVD-R format media on the market today :)
