I have Nero 7 now, and I am considering buying AnyDVD for backing up DVDs with all the copy protection garbage. Do they work together OK? To put it another way - Do they compliment each other or will I have a mess. Thanks!
(I'm fed up with all the double redundency errors, and want to simplify things)

I have backed up 100s of movies using anydvd with nero recode 2 (nero 7 ultra 7.2.0.3b and with previous versions) with no problems at all.

But then again I could just be lucky

Welcome to AD :)

Do I have to buy CloneDVD to get AnyDVD to work??? They are talked about on the forums "in the same breath". I have shrink already.

No you do not have to buy clonedvd to get anydvd to work you can use anydvd with any programme you desire.

Anydvd will work in the background to break the encryption of your movie/music.

They are always mentioned together because anydvd has been made fully compatible with clonedvd.

Just make sure you buy anydvd from slysoft.com

No, you dont need to buy both AnyDVD and CloneDVD2 together.
AnyDVD is the copy protection remover.
Nero7 Recode, DVD Shrink, CloneDVD2, DVD Rebuilder Pro, and many others are Transcoders or Encoders.
Once AnyDVD removes the copy protection, the disc can be read by anthing that would read a disc, and it appears as not copy protected to that program.
I highly recommend both programs, but you dont need CloneDVD2 if you have something to handle the disc (encode/burn). AnyDVD also includes a ripping program that will extract files to HD, but i use DVD Decrypter for that.
AnyDVD is constantly updated to handle the latest anti-copy trick. With it, and your transcoder/encoder/burn program of choice, you never have to worry about figuring out how to make a copy of that new movie everyone on AD is posting about not being able to copy. As long as you update to the latest version.

You can always back up any movie out there the free ways, but it usually involves multiple programs. If you have patience, and are not intimidated by using programs like VOB Blanker, DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink, then you can do it for free. Or, like me, you can take the lazy way, and use the slysoft programs to make your back ups. Once in a while, I like to try the free methods, just to see how difficult it is. CloneDVD2 allows you to keep the menus, and select only the video streams you want. Shrink can do that, but you loose the menus in the re-author mode. I still use shrink occasionally.
AnyDVD and CloneDVD2 are the best money i have spent on DVD ripping programs. Since Slysoft makes both programs, they are very compatible together, and are designed to work together.
Hope that helps explain things. :)

Thanks alot for clearing that up for me. I read the differant forums and there seems to be an "art" to it. I guess I'm too lazy and I guess I get a tad bit edgy when things don't out. I'll try Nero 7 to burn the DVD since I paid $70.00. for it.

Nero's Recode 2 with AnyDVD work well..

Quickie guide:

Install AnyDVD. It will sit in the background working so you really don't need to open it.

Open Recode2.
Unless you want all the extras, I would select "Recode Main Movie to DVD.
Put the movie you want to copy into your drive and let it spin up. Close any programs, etc that try and open.

Click the "Import DVD" button and browse for the movie. Click the VIDEO_TS folder. Click OK. Recode will analyze.

Once thats done you can uncheck unneeded audio and subtitles. I keep the 5.1 AC3 audio and no subtitles.

You can set the size from DVD-5 to custom and then enter a smaller number. 4300MB seems to work well for lower quality media. I use Taiyo Yuden media so just leave it set to DVD-5.

Once thats all done, select Next.

You set the destination here. Put your blank in and set your burner as the destination. The default setting for the temporary files should be OK.

I use 4X for my burn speed.

I never use the Burn-at-once feature.

Decide whether you want to use the Advanced analysis and the High quality mode features. I usually only do it on movies that need a lot of compression. If it is at 80% or higher I probably wouldn't use these.

Select Burn and let the process begin.

Well I guess for you it was 100.00... dollars?

The downloadable serial number is the way to go though because when you buy the CD you end up having to download upgrades anyhow. I would have downloaded the free demo and then unlocked it with the purchased serial number for $79.99.

There are probably better deals out there...

One thing that seems to have been overlooked here is the cyclic redundancy errors you speak of. Typically CRC errors are a description of the quality of your disc, not copy protection. A CRC error used to mean that your disc is dirty, scratched or has a factory flaw pressed directly into the disc. As of late, some newer releases will give you this error, but if you are getting this error with older movies I would make sure that the disc you are ripping from is free of dirt and scratches. My 2 cents...
