I've been having all kinds of problems backing up movies on double layer disks using dvdshrink. The menu either locks up my dvd player when I watch them or the menus are missing words that you would navigate the menu with.... Please Help....

You shouldn't even be using DVD Shrink for DL backups. Rip the disc in ISO read mode with DVD Decrypter and then burn the MDS file in ISO write mode with either DVD Decrypter or Imgburn.

According to my experience the best layer breaking handle stands on CloneDVD (but unfortunately this is not free).

What about DVDFab Decrypter? I usually use that when DVDShrink won't rip a movie, and then compress and write it with DVDShrink. I'm sure these are stupid questions and have likly been answered before, but I'm kind of a new to this...So, be gentle........ I've wasted several double layer disks now and they are expensive.

DVDFab Decrypter doesn't have a burn engine. You need to get the file in an ISO and MDS format for DVD Decrypter or Imgburn to insert the layer break correctly. What movie are you trying to burn? Why not just use DVD Shrink to compress the movie to fit onto a SL disc?

I've backed up Deadwood and I'm trying Short Cuts now. The Deadwood back up plays fine, but the menus are are messed up. You can't see what you are choosing because parts of the menu are missing. Short Cuts is the same as Deadwood the movie is fine, but the menu is no good. I'm using Memorex Double Layer DVD+R disks. I'm using Double Layer because I think quality would suffer on regular DVD+R disks. I would really like to preserve the Menus if possible especially for back ups of TV Show DVDs like Deadwood. I haven't had any problems using standard DVD+R, so this is very frustrating.

Memorex DL discs don't belong in the same sentence with quality! Get yourself some Verbatim DLs. Not saying they will solve your problem but they won't create any either!
One thing you can try with the DLs is set Shrink for 9 GB discs and set it to create an ISO Image file and to burn with DVD Decrypter automatically and decrypter will choose the best place for the layer break. I did it Loco's way with Decrypter and had issues with the layer break on my system. Try it both ways. Good way to test those bad quality Memorex.

I've backed up all seasons of Deadwood, Sopranos and OZ on single layer discs without menus and it looks and feels great. Each episode has about 8 chapters in it, so if I want to go the next episode I just select the chapter I want to watch. I agree with the Memorex choice, pure crap...as suggested stick with Verbatim.
You haven't tried my original suggestion have you? If you use DVD Shrink you will just create coasters.

Where I can I download DVD Decrypter? I thought that it was no longer updated and had been replaced with DVDFAB Decrypter. Thank you for the tips.

Not true about using shrink for DL. I set shrink for DVD-9, check remove layer break box, and set it to auto burn with decrypter. This lets decrypter choose the layer break. I set burn speed to 2.4 and use verb DVD+R DL disks. I personally have AnyDVD running to take care of protections. It works great and your able to set it up and walk away with the auto burn.
I was so ugly when I was a kid, my parents used to take me everywhere just so they wouldn't have to kiss me goodbye.
