big problem when hooked up PS2 online.

My router is in my basement and my room is right above it. I didnt want to buy like a long ethernet cable for $30. So I made a outlet in my wall for the ethernet cable and ran a cat5 cable to my basement and put a outlet for the ethernet cable on that side too. then I baught 2 three foot ethernet cables and pluged one in to my PS2 and the other in to my router. When i set up the PS2 online everything worked fine except I had to set up the ip address and everything manually. The test connection worked fine but when I tried to play a game online (original game)it didn't work but I thaught that it was the firewall that was blocking it. Later in the day I went on my computer and the internet wasnt working. So I went downstairs and checked the router and the whole router wasnt working, but when I unplugged the PS2 cable the router started working again.
I was going to take apart the outlet in the wall and check if I put all the little wires in all the little spots and do the same thing to the outlet downstairs. But then I thaught maybe I just set something up wrong. So I was just wondering if there could be a problem with the way I set up the network configuration. Or does the problem have to be with the outlets.



BTW: uh I dont know if this means anything but my PS2 is chipped and when I tried using the network adapter start up disk it wouldent get past the spot when you have to save to the memory card because it would just freeze there. So I used Need for Speed Underground 2 to set up the network configuration.

Which chip do you have? Some won't work online.

That is not gonna work online. When it detects the chip online, it prevents a connection. If you have an original game, you can disable the chip and then play online. If you need to use a backup, search these forums for DNAS patching to get it to work. This is probably only part of your problem, there maybe something going on with the router set up as well, but its a start. Try it and see where you get, if there is still a problem, report your findings.

I didnt try anything yet but I wanted to tell you that the router still wasnt working when the PS2 was turned off. Would that be normal?

The ps2 shouldn't have any effect on the router.

I'm pretty sure that there is a problem with the wiring. Because when I had everything hooked up and the chip disabled it still wouldn?t work. I hooked a laptop up to the wire it and didn?t work.
