Hi everyone, ive been using these forums for a while and have found them very useful but my laptop has started acting up and i can't find out how to fix it. I downloaded an xvid encoded .avi file yesterday but when i tried to play it media player crashed, so i thought i would just have to download an xvid codec but that didn't help any. So then i tried one of my old files to see if it was just the file itself and it turned out suddenly none of my media files would play in media player, i just get a data error protection error, then media player and explorer.exe reset. I uninstalled the codec and that didnt help anything. I can't think of what my problem could be. Although i had been running disk defragmenter and had cancelled it when it was still going as i was suffering from extremely slow speeds (cpu at 100%). I hope i'm being clear enough and also that somebody has the answer.

*edit, forgot to say i installed avi2dvd around the same time the error started to appear.
