the only chip i remember without boot logo is the Muppet chip. i dont think it supports v9 though. but u can try looking at magic/muppet chips as muppet is a copy of the magic.

actually some have the option to skip the PS2 boot screen and chip logo, like the DMS4 Pro
Is there any logo at all that appears or does it just skip strait to the game?
You may have to ask your cousin as the only other way is to pull apart the PS2 and look for identification on the chip itself.

you can go here and try a few of these more popular chips features and see if any of them work on your system.

alright, thanks for the help! no other logos appear when booting up

i guess i should open up the ps2 to find out. is it at all possible to replace the modchip? or would it destroy the ps2 or take too much effort?

no, people who have good skills can replace them, but i do not advise trying this yourself.
Opening the PS2 you have to be very careful as the ribbons that connect the drive and power/eject button come out really easy
hope this will help
