Burning slow via firewire to Sony DRX 500ULX

I am using 4x Princo DVD-R media and taking appox 90 mins to burn a ripped movie to disk with Nero. can anyone help with why or how most achieve under 15 mins.

Maybe its because youre dvd-writed is connected via a firewire cable, i think most peoples dvd-writers are internal IDE cables.

Firewire is supposed to be 400 Mb/s max I thought enabling what I was led to believe ample room for data flow.
Makes a slow drive out of what I thought would be a super fast drive.
Any input is appreciated.
